Huey P. Bridge was built low to keep large ships from going past Baton Rouge thereby forcing it to be a major hub.

Catfish Town was named after Ron "Louisiana Lightning" Guidry's good friend Catfish Hunter.

Also, did any one say that "Istrouma" also means red stick in one of the native american languages? Never knew that until recently.

Was always told there was a stick that held sacrifices near the area that is now downtown.
The blood on the stick made it red, hence red stick.

Also, the original location of New Orleans was to be just south of BR, Willow Glen powerplant area.
Bayou Manchac ties in there.
Drunk frenchman couldn't read map, 300 years later the residents paid for that mistake.

As I understood, it was a large post used to hang game for dressing. The animals blood gave it the red color.

The last name of the Louisiana Capitol building's architect was Weiss (Leon) ... Which is also the last name of the man (Carl Weiss) that murdered Huey Long in the Capitol building in 1935.
I always thought that was weird.

I moved from BR to the Jackson area two years ago. I took a wrong turn to avoid road construction and holy hell it was like I was in West Africa just with more HIV.

I know. People just don't know their history.
So much of Baton Rouge is Spanish. Galvez Plaza, the name 'Baton Rouge', the historic 'Alamo Plaza,' even the great Mexican restaurants in town. Ibberville would be proud!
