Liberal economists point to California's great universities, extensive highway system and sharply improved air quality,

ok i can't speak about the air quality, but Texas has a great university system as well as well as an "extensive highway system", whatever that actually means

I don't know how average people in California save enough for retirement with the cost of living.

Occidental Petroleum, currently headquartered in L.A. and one of the largest domestic oil companies is soon about to split off from it's California ties and relocate its headquarter to Houston.

I'm guessing the author is the kind of person which thinks Seattle and San Francisco aren't alternative enough.

Suck it Cali - your taxes are too high.

Last summer I was driving to Walnut Creek and always pass by Solyndra in San Jose...........such fond memories of that place.

Pretty sure I'd take the 2nd option over not being able to afford shite because of the greedy arse government.

Yup, there were two fortune 500 companies that were set to move to Texas within the next year and at that point, Texas was set to become the state that played home to the most 500 companies.

The big question is how does California continue to be the ones who are creating these jobs/companies in the first place?

What's going on right now in the SF Bay Area is unparalleled.

It's not just the greedy arse government you have to worry about, look up the cost of housing in California versus Texas. You take a 15% pay cut moving from Cali to Texas and come out ahead.

For anyone looking to justify his or her opinion, it's not hard to find stark contrasts between the two big states:

--California has Silicon Valley and Hollywood. Texas has oil and gas.

--California has Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi. Texas has Ted Cruz and Louie Gohmert.

--In California, billionaires get taxed more to pay for programs for the poor. In Texas, billionaires get to keep their money and the poor go without health care.

--Mr. Brown got voters to approve a tax hike to help balance the budget and fund education. Mr. Perry balanced the budget by slashing spending on education.

--In lots of places in California, it's tough to live on a middle class family budget. In lots of places in Texas, it's hard to live outside a church-going, football-loving, white, heterosexual lifestyle.

LOL

Houston is the most diverse city in America, according to the census. And we have a gay woman for mayor.

And I am sitting here in San Diego going through client evidence, and I noted they pay there manual labor workers $8/hour. Coupled with the cost of living here, this state should be ashamed to allow those types of wages.

Yeah, but nowhere in majority liberal states is that the case.

The population centers of Texas are very diverse and cosmopolitan (which doesn't require one to be a "liberal"). Houston which may be the most conservative city in Texas (or #2 behind Dallas) has a gay neighborhood and is one of the most diverse cities in the world. But I guess if you want to make a fake point you just ignore all that and go with unsupported stereotypes.

I'll bet David Horsey feels he was "bullied" as a child.
