Any idea when Newman will make his decision?
Can't see him doing it before McD AA (maybe at)

Hmmm tq going from starter back to coming off the bench after a break through season, kinda sucks for him.

I still say there is no way Hornsby ever loses his starting job no matter who we sign.

Just the fact that he can play PG for us I think is huge for him coming to LSU. Also with our new commits recruiting him i would be surprised if we didnt get him actually

Newman, Blakeney and Simmons are all one and done players. As much as I like Hornsby I don't see how he keeps his starting job if Mickey and Martin stay. If they both go, he's competing with TQ for a starting spot unless one of the one and dones gets injured or unexpectedly takes a while to settle in. Maybe he beats out TQ but I don't know.

Remember blakeney is only a highschool senior. He's not Kobe, jarrell was by far the highest ranked freshman on the team last year and most of the year he was a sixth man. Hornsby is an experienced player who has a ugly but effective shot and has played big for us in moments we needed him to. Blakeney will start the year coming off the bench and MAYBE by the end of the year earn a starting spot

Blakeney is not a lock to be one and done. Not every 5* turns out to be NBA player in a year. Jarell was higher rated and look at Sindarius Thornnwell. 5* SG and McD AA who will likely be a 4 year player.
Hornsby also likely starts over TQ.

So you also disagree with Mickey Goldsmith that there is "no way Hornsby ever loses his starting job." I like Hornsby but I can think of several ways he loses his job and that by the end of next year he likely will. That's all I was saying.

Blakeney is going to win a starting spot, he'll probably earn it by conference play. there's no doubt Hornsby will start the season as a starter. Jones will relish finally having experience

Absolutely. Hornsby leads the team in minutes played and is the most consistent player on the team. We play with 3 guards most of the time and he'll start over TQ or Patterson in that 3rd guard spot.

i wouldn't put him on the bench at all. i mean, i could see him thriving as a gunner off the bench but you don't limit his impact, especially considering he's not just a one-trick pony but a guy who is very athletic and can create his own stuff and get to the rim. he's also the only thing close to a leader in the program right now.
all these kids, even simmons, need time to adjust and learn how to balance the academic/athletic/social aspects of their lives and everything in between. these potential lineup conundrums are a good problem to have though.

Martin was very highly rated coming out of high school, but I feel like that had a lot to do with potential and freaky athleticism more than his actual ability in high school. I mean he only played two years of high school basketball and was playing for madison prep, at the time a class B school in Louisiana which isn't the most competitive high school ball out there.

"Hmmm tq going from starter back to coming off the bench after a break through season, kinda sucks for him. I just argued the other day about him needing another year to develop a consistent shot, now I'm kinda concerned (depending on draft grade) that he may seriously consider leaving depending on malik newman decision."
Are you seriously concerned Q would leave early and expect to get drafted by an NBA team......???? C'mon man

I'm more surprised you think he has no shot.

I would put the chance of tq leaving at 25%, I was just stating it's a legit concern. I mean look at it, this will probably be his best opportunity, he will be losing pt next year.

I'd like to refer people back one page where I said there is zero chance Hornsby ever loses his starting spot

Well yeah, he won't lose his spot because there is no chance Martin comes back now
Newman
Blakeney
Hornsby
Simmons
Mickey
That's some scoring power there

I don't care who comes here or who goes, Hornsby will not lose his starting spot. Period.

Newman and Blakneney would push him to the bench

They'll sell Martin on being a lottery pick if he improves. Right now, he's borderline 1st round. Come back next year, play well, win a championship, and he could legitimately be a top 14 pick.
