Cost of HVAC replacement.

My compressor is out on my 25 yo unit and I am looking at getting a new system. My question is what is a good price for a 3-4 ton unit. Looking for Lennox, Carrier or Trane. Not planning to go for the ultra high efficient unit since the cost is so much higher.
Also, would anyone recommend switching just the outside unit and leaving the old inside one or should I switch both.

Go for both to get the new refrigerant. Est $6000-7500 installed. (It's July.)

depends...have you had any other problems with the unit?...how often are you having to put refrigerant in the current one?....

Anywheres from 5-6,500 hundred. Change out everyrhing including the duct work.

I changed mine out today. I jumped from a 4 ton to a 5 ton (13 seer), so the condensor, coil, and furnace all had to be changed. It cost me $6900. The 4 ton I was quoted would have come to $4500 (without changing the furnace). A 5 ton 16 seer would have been over $9000.

From what I understand it can be worth it. Your electric bill can drop up to $100 per month. It would have been nice but $6900 was already stretching me very very thin.

I'll be changing my equally as old unit for around $3500. Much smaller place/unit though...going with a 2.5 ton 14 seer Rheem.

Will cost around 5-7k for 13 seer depending on equipment. Need to change out entire system. If worried about price being unfair call around most companies (all I think) give you free estimates.

What's a complete system replace looking for for a 3 ton unit? Plan to only be in my current house for 2 or so more years so I wouldn't be looking top of the line. 1300 sq foot house

Read above. Call around is the best way to get true estimate because every setup is different and prices vary because of that. If only planing on being in house for a short time you will be able to save money on cheaper equipment though.

Spinoff, but what would be causing my breaker to trip with a new 4 ton unit installed last week? Breaker is 30 amp and trips daily after the unit runs for 6-8 hours. Previously had a 3.5 ton unit with no issues. Is the 30amp breaker to small?

Have the installer back out. It could be a loose wire or another fault somewhere. The breaker is doing it's job. It's keeping your home safe.

I checked around online last week for a unit for my upstairs. I ordered from https://www.budgetairsupply.com/
Luckily for me, my brother-in-law is an AC guy, and did the install for me for free, but the price I got on the system was great. Granted, it's not a MAJOR name brand that I bought, but the warranty was 10 years.
I got a Goodman 2.5 ton 13 SEER heat pump, matching air handler, 8kw heater, free programmable thermostat, free shipping (came from central Florida in two days via freight line)for $1400
General rule is that if your air handler if over 7 years old, you may want to change it along with the condenser.

Augtig, indoor unit or outdoor unit? Probably a bad breaker thought.
Goodman = junk

Been doing a lot of reading on them as I was initially quoted a 2.5 ton/13 seer Goodman outside condenser unit...I think this is blown out of proportion.
They seemed to have had some issues 4-8 years ago, but most seemed to be due to bad installs. More specifically, the fact that Goodman sells direct to consumer - so you have more botched install jobs.
Do they make the best unit on the market? No. But if you have it installed by a competent HVAC guy, I wouldn't have any issues running a new Goodman. They seem okay for the price. That's just my very limited knowledge though...
