Lowe, as usual, is right.
He could have fit on this team as a 2nd unit 3/4. He complements Anderson nicely and can offer size/athleticism for the small backcourt. Same time, he might not have wanted to come back as a bench player after starting for the past 2 years.
Will be interesting to see how he does with Carlisle. He's arguably the 2nd best coach in the league and very good at getting the most from the skills his players bring to the table. Dallas, again, will be very good next year.

Dallas really did have a solid offseason. Got way better and re-tooled. They might have the best front court in basketball with Parsons, Dirk and Chandler. The guard rotation is weird though with 4 PGs (Ellis, Felton, Nelson and Harris). All are vets with tons of playoff experience and Ellis and Harris will play a lot of SG. I'm guessing Aminu might play more PF, since Crowder plays a lot of SF. The southwest division has to be the hardest division in the league..

Felton likely will hardly ever play. They'll miss Calderon's spot up shooting. He has been one of the more underrated pgs in the age of the pg. If Nelson can get his shooting form back, that will help. Plus Parsons and Jefferson are an upgrade on offense v Marion/Carter.
Will be interesting. Aminu is better than Crowder, but Crowder has 25 lbs on him and is obviously a better shooter. Would love to see some funky lineups with a Dirk, Parsons, Aminu frontcourt.
If Chandler is healhty and Dirk doesn't drop off a cliff they are a sleeper Finals contender. With Carlisle, they might not even be much of a sleeper. Could see them being 3rd behind OKC and SAS.

Mavs' off-season: Dirk, Devin Harris, RJeff, Aminu for $13.7M next year.
Lakers' off-season: Boozer, Jordan Hill for $13.3M next year.

don't need his rebounding any more with Asik. Need a shooter.

It's really tough for the Pelicans. There are 4 for sure playoff teams in their division. I just don't know if all 5 teams from a division has ever made the playoffs. Unless Memphis or Houston stumbles, it's going to be hard to get out of the basement.

AD or Asik. I hope we see tighter rotations than in the past. There's no reason 4 of our top 6 players can't be on the floor at all times except for injury, foul trouble, and blow outs.

Just lost the best rebounding SF on the fricking planet who we could have signed for the minimum.... and he's only 23.... frick you dell, I used to believe in you but now you can go frick yourself.

One would hope this is the case.

Congrats to Dallas and Aminu if he becomes a consistent contributor for them. I really like Mason's takes, but I just don't agree with something like this:
We literally gave that guy NO responsibility offensively. His role couldn't have been more basic and concise...rebound, play defense, get out and run when possible. Thats it. He failed. Over and over.
Outside of playing 5 minutes less and/or his name no longer being listed as a starter in the box score, I don't know how much less you could ask from him.
Plus, it seemed like his "teaser" games where he flashed intriguing "stuff" came less and less frequently as the talent on the team got better. So I'm not positive that paring down his role even further means you should cut on the same/better production in smaller doses.
Over the last 3 or 4 years we've turned a lot of other teams' trash into treasures. Never once did I look at those guys' success here as a referendum on their former teams' ability to develop players.

#Pelicans fans saying "Dallas can have Aminu, we won't miss him" - maybe, but don't underestimate his ability to contribute w/ smaller role.

His shooting was bad enough for me to be glad to see him gone. Plus, we gave him a one year deal to prove himself again and he couldnt. Time to move on.

We were in this same spot with Aminu last year and gave him the 1 yr prove-it contract. Giving up on him last summer might have been questionable. But after coming back the same player, again, why keep going down that road?

Agreed. Maybe he does better in Dallas with the players, coaches, and system they have there, but I think it's best for both Aminu and the Pelicans for him to move on.

People that want to bag on Monty/Dell will always find a way. Sometimes it just doesn't work out for players and teams. Doesn't mean it's someone's fault.
Pels fans and the team want(ed) a 3 that can shoot. That isn't where Aminu has value. He never was able to deliver and the team never really tried to modify his role. shite happens.
Is he a good bet on a vet minimum? Sure. But not in New Orleans any more.

So where is this 3 that can shoot? Salmons? Salmons blows and should at most get 10 minutes a game.
Jimmer won't play the 3, he's too undersized.
Are you saying Miller is the answer? Can't be, that guy is lucky to even be on an nba roster.
So... where is our SF that can hit threes that can start for us?

quote:They cannot play together for 48 minutes. Both together is fine. However, when only one is on the court or misses a game, we do not have much rebounding from other positions. We were not a good rebounding team last year. Having a strong rebounder and decent defender from the 3 position is a nice commodity off the bench for league minimum.

True. Ajinca was a decent rebounder (10.5 per 36 and 16.9% TRB%), can he keep the fouling down and stay on the court with offseason development and playing more against backups? Outside of him no one stands out as a rebounder. I know a lot of people have high hopes for Patric Young, but he wasn't a good rebounder in college.

It could be that he was willing to play for the minimum for Dallas and not Nola, though, right?
