They didn't release his information and I'm guessing they won't exactly be chomping at the bit to redraft him either.
Then who released, close said the Astros did, and I gurantee Aiken and his family didn't give permission for that release or release it themselves. Astros released it to make them try and not look like the bad guys when they dropped his offer from 6.5 to 3.2. They were trying to get sympathy from people. Good luck next year trying to get one of the top players to take a discount, their advisor will probably laugh.

The only other option is their people talked to other organizations about it and someone like that released it....
Astro's will have issues in future of trying to get kids take below slot value based on what happened here I think going forward

No they won't laugh. Aiken without the injury was going to get 6.5 million. Slots are only rising. If you tell a kid, yeah slot is 8.5 million, but we will make you the first pick if you take 7.25, they are going to listen. You know why? With each slot they fall, that slot value lowers, which means they lose money the more they fall. The Astros discount 1 is going to earn them more than full slot from the 3rd or 4th pick down.
Some of you know very little about how the draft works.

Actually they would, but it isn't like they would want to anyway.

If the Astros pissed in your mouth would you thank them for the lemonade?

Their sticking point is the original argrement was 6.5m but Astros lowered it after their doctors looked at Aiken (only speculation on my part)
Nah. Let's just say that the Astros should have spent $6.5M on a damaged product and they didn't because they're cheap and Aiken is never going to have arm issues. 100% never going to have arm issues in his career. It fits the status quo amongst some posters around here.

Casey Close is a snake. He's the one that leaked all this info, that's how he got in trouble at CAA. This outrage by him and the Aiken family is fake. They will consent and allow the stros to take him # 2 overall next year. Unless, the players association gets involved, they may prevent houston from taking him next year.

Astros aren't drafting Aiken again.
Aiken won't go nearly as high. Could he turn out to be good? Sure. But there will be better options on the board that aren't as risky.

He is not damaged
They saw a condition that increases the possibility of future damage
Huge risk by astros
If they sign him and he gets hurt, it is a "shite happens" moment
If they sign him and he succeeds, it is a good pick
If they dont sign him and he succeeds, ownership likely cleans house
If they dont sign him and he gets hurt, they look like geniuses

At this point the guy is at least 5 years from the majors, maybe more. Management is going to fire people for a mistake made 5 years in the past. If Luhnow is still GM in 2019, he will be sticking around whether or not Aiken succeeds.

Yeah and Luhnow at that point may have busted on back to back 1.1 picks. That'll get you fired.

Didn't they only draft him #1 overall in the first place because he agreed to almost 1.5M under slot value and not because they thought he was the best prospect in the draft?
They haven't shown a real willingness to spend any money on their big league product under the new ownership yet, AND they weren't willing to spend to ensure they got who they valued as the best prospect in the entire draft. That is not a good look regardless of how the situation turned out IMO.

Lefties that throw 97 dont take 5 years to get to show
If successful, he could get call at 20 or 21

Apple is a bust...
I know he is young but he was supposed to be MLB ready and a September call up at this point... instead he has been a giant flop...
Not having Aiken this delays the Astro's rebuilding imo. with Springer already up they've started his clock and I'm not sure what pitchers the Astros have to bring up to make the team more competitive.

Why did they draft him in the first place? They didn't initially see his health as a future concern?

Teams are not permitted to require a physical until they draft a player

He was #1 on a lot of boards, but it isn't like he was a clear choice like Harper or someone. There are always negotiations when there isn't a consensus #1. The original agreement would have been tied for the largest bonus ever given to a high school pitcher, even though it was under slot.

Folty, Hader, McCullers, Feliz, Velasquez
Appel has been in majors one season and has been struggling with injuries. It's not looking good, but it is too early to call him a bust
