Obamacare Misses Its Target on the Uninsured by Half

In March 2010, Obamacare was about to be voted upon by the House of Representatives, and the Democrats were in the process of deciding whether to ignore public opinion at their peril. At that time, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected that Obamacare would cost $938 billion over a decade and would reduce the number of uninsured people by 19 million as of 2014 (with a reduction of 1 million prior to 2014 and 18 million in 2014 alone).
In February of this year, the CBO projected that Obamacare would reduce the number of uninsured by 13 million as of 2014. In April, the CBO had seen enough of the Obama administration’s skillful rollout of Obamacare to reduce that estimate to 12 million.
Now the Urban Institute finds that Obamacare has actually reduced the number of uninsured adults by 8 million since the rollout began last fall. (Gallup shows a similar number.) That’s far short of the number of newly insured that the CBO projected in April of this year, in February of this year, or in 2012 — and it’s less than half the tally the American people were told Obamacare would hit when they opposed it in 2010.

And to make matters worse, of the eight million uninsured that now have a plan, how many were uninsured by choice and simply bought a plan so that they would not be fined? I would bet a decent amount.

Wait until Obama is touting success stories of the new influx of enrollees after the employer mandate is actually implemented and millions lose their employer provided insurance coverage.
It is amazing what Obama considers success.

The exchanges havent been open a year. The uninsured rate is dropping dramatically for now. To judge the program fairly we have to see where it plateaus to see if it was as effective as originally planned.
Obviously their timeline was off for a multitude of reasons.

But subsidies and racism and the R's blocking things and so forth...

I think you are mixing up targets with estimates and different groups to boot.
But what is your point, anyway?

The point is that once again Obama lied, again.

States didn't option into the Medicare expansion... and the following ...
Checking back this time next year will tell us where the program is. Right now it looks pretty good.

Those who are making this entire thing possible will make their voices heard in November. I know I will. My $110 dollar plan is gone for good and now illegal, but my ability to vote isn't. As Obama said, voting is the best revenge.
A lot of people will be voting out of revenge this November.

So wait a minute, a law that forces people to buy health insurance and less than the anticipated amount buys it, and it's a success?
Also, people can't buy outside the exchanges? C'mon man.

quote:I just think the numbers aren't as high in 2014 because the rollout last year was later than anticipated. We will probably see that 14 million number in 2015.

quote:Did I say this? Of course they can buy outside of the exchanges. The business mandates haven't gone into effect yet as planned either.

I don't think the business mandate ever comes, to be honest

And how many of those are getting heavily subsidized (ie: causing the government to have to fund more of the program)? I would bet that's a decent amount as well.

Probably more than half. You can't believe any number the government trots out.
