5-Star SMU Bball commit, Emmanuel Mudiay, heading overseas

@EvanDaniels: Emmanuel Mudiay will bypass college and pursue a professional career, per multiple sources.

@GaryParrishCBS: Earlier @WojYahooNBA reported that Emmanuel Mudiay is considering skipping college and going overseas. I’m now hearing it’s done. He’s gone.
It's a shame I was really looking forward to this kid play. He's a projected top 5-10 pick in next year's NBA draft.
update:

@EvanDaniels
SMU head coach Larry Brown confirms Scout.com's report, regarding Emmanuel Mudiay. He's pursuing professional opportunities.

@GaryParrishCBS
It takes a giant leap to believe Mudiay’s decision wasn’t influenced by eligibility issues. Literally nobody I’ve asked thinks that’s true.

Player claims it's not an eligibility issue. Several plugged-in media members suggest there was one. So, we'll see. Loss for SMU either way.

Wow...was this expected?

Not at all. It came out of nowhere according to most of the national people I follow

shite i really wanted him to play at smu

Shady as hell but not surprising with him coming from Prime Prep

Odds this makes Larry Brown say frick it and he goes somewhere else after the season?

This is something that the NCAA should fear. I have the feeling that more and more players, regardless of right or wrong, are going to start doing this to get a quick paycheck.

Dude.... Not trying to derail this thread, but who are some of your favorite bball guys that you follow on twitter? I just made me a new one a few days ago so I could follow all the nba free agency stuff while I'm at work or whatever. So who do you follow?

I said the same thing last year and no one really saw it being a problem in the future. But I'm with you.

pretty stupid of him.
I'm not so sure. People said Brandon Jennings was stupid, too, but it worked out just fine for him.

This seems like a risky venture. How many top level Euro clubs are going to take a guy for one year, and if they do, how much run will he get?
I know the potential is there for more development, plus a paycheck. But the realities around it and the difficult transition would make me hesitant.
Besides, he was going to SMU to be coached by Larry Brown. He can't be making that much more money overseas, and the coaching likely won't be as good.

If the one year of college/age limit deal was a thing back then...do you know how much money teams would have paid for LeBron to come play for a year instead of going to college for a year?
I definitely think it's going to become a factor.

Again, the same was said after Brandon Jennings did it, but it didn't start an exodus.

WTF? He would rather head overseas than play for Larry Brown? Bad move kid.

Brandon Jennings is 1 guy... There are plenty of guys that were big time high school prospects that go to Europe and just fizzle out for diff reasons.... Not that good and overrated, being alone in a diff country, pressure, etc.
The best part about playing college basketball in the US is the amount of exposure you get and you go up against other future nba players. Not saying the euro leagues suck or whatever, but there are only a few guys playing in all of Europe that make it to the nba.

Not looking like it's his actual choice. There is an investigation going on with him regarding his amateurism so he most likely wouldn't be eligible to play at SMU next year.

Well that makes a lot of sense... I mean it is SMU

Well we don't have to play against him next year...but we really need SMU to be good for our OOC schedule

Like I said earlier, not surprising with him coming from Prime Prep.
Whoever let Deion Sanders start a school should be taken out back and given the Ole Yeller treatment
