Absolutely personal reasons. Junior wanted to impress his father after Saddam had tried to assassinate him, and Bush wanted to be THAT man in history who brought democracy to Iraq, according to the instruction God had personally spoken to him.

Obama didn't start anything in Afghanistan under lying excuses.
true, but he also didn't end it on day one of his presidency like he said he would.
gitmo is still open as well if you were wondering.

so what is obama's excuse for continuing the war for 5 more years after he was elected?

Sufficient for a simpleton like you, I suppose.

Bush broke it, Obama tried to fix it.
Why is that so difficult for you?

ridiculous. why didn't he just pull the troops out like he said?
it got a lot of people killed.
is he not responsible for that?

It is intellectually dishonest to expect President Obama to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan immediately after taking office. He did inherit two very troublesome issues simultaneously. There is no way he could have done it. No. Way.
However, it is also intellectually dishonest for President Obama to make a habit of blaming President Bush for every misfortune he has encountered in his presidency. He did ask for the job (twice). At some point he has to assume ownership. His default position on most issues is he inherited the problem. In his first two years (and with the aid of a Democratic congress), this was an acceptable/plausible rationale for why he had not enacted his policies. At this point? Not so much.

I'll say it again: Regardless of your politics, you should read his book. Now I know he probably had years to consider the reasons he gave for some of the things he did, but it puts some things in perspective to hear it in his own words.

What's it like living in Rex World?
I imagine it to be like the time watched Heavy Metal while on LSD.

Screw Bush and screw Obama. Big government thugs, the both of them.

I have no doubt he's a good man and he honestly cared about his troops that he was in command of.
I think he's a POS that didn't care about the troops he was in command of, nor their long-term well being. His continual lack of regret for the Iraq war is evidence of that.
I do hope he had a nice birthday though.

A great person who as President had to deal with unprecedented problems. Certainly didn't agree with many of his positions, but I think he did well with what he had to deal with overall.
