oh damn. they'll have to sell their property and mint money in the process...the horror

fwiw, they could also mortgage their property to get the available cash to pay the increased property taxes

1 - they still need a place to live after.
2 - depends on their credit.

Though very close to 50% of my neighborhood is rentals - gentrification will mean a lot of the old folks are gonna have to go with very little to show for it. It also means the price of an education at DelGado will be more.

SF is not on that list b/c it doesn't even have black people to segregate. it handles its segregation, as it has historically, by pricing out black people. only 6.1% of the SF population is black

Are you just juxtaposing those two facts together for no particular reason at all - just to be random - or do you have a point?
I told you my point. Why are you being obtuse? My point is that the demographics of the neighborhood have changed a lot. What was once a predominantly white neighborhood with middle-class families is now a predominantly black neighborhood with low-income residents.

I'm actually more interested in yours.
I don't know the reason why the demographics changed so much.

So the grass is yellow? All the driveways empty out into people's backyards? Do old folks gradually become younger and younger until they are born? Complete opposite, right?
Once again, you're being obtuse. You know what I mean. In the context of our discussion on the characteristics of a neighborhood (demographics, income, crime, etc.), the neighborhood is completely different.

You are aware that not all minorities are black and that San Francisco has massive numbers of Asians? I mean maybe you don't know, I figured you did.

So that's why it cost so much to live there, they hate the blacks - but love the Asians. Got it.

they'll have ample money to pay for moving expenses and will almost assuredly have money to pay cash for a property in another area, or at least have a major downpayment for another mortgage-purchase. or they can use the profits to rent somewhere else

2 - depends on their credit.

mortgaging an expensive piece of paid-for property? they'd have to have like 0 credit

the fact that they're elderly renters isn't really relevant to me. i can't help what economic mistakes they made in their life to leave them in that situation. it's not within my area of power/decision-making

San Francisco is a terrible city to use as an example for segregated neighborhoods. Unless Caucasians and Asians live in segregated areas, you won't see it. The black population of SF is only ~6%, and it has been dropping steadily since the 70s. The cause is likely due to the increase in property value over that time.

asians are not a population that typically results in segregation. i clearly said there are no black people in SF

and they've done that on purpose

pretty much. asians also are typically more racist than white people when it comes to balcks also, so that helps

Chinatown? SERIOUSLY? WTF?!?!

Have you ever actually been to San Francisco or New York City or anywhere outside your backyard?

your statement drips with irony

Is that a massive area? I've never been to SF so I don't know how much land it encompasses or what percentage of the Asian community lives there.

Well, the Japanese are pretty much the most racist population on the planet. Not sure about the Chinese or other Asian countries though.

Its the largest chinatown outside asia.

I just looked and it encompasses nearly 3% of the entire city.

Though the point was really to use it as an example that there is/was segregation of Asians. During the great westward expansion asians were generally treated like shite.

Based on their history that is certainly justified. Though perhaps it would be more accurate to say they are racistly ethno-centric and really really fricking hate Koreans.

Pretty large size, I assume. I'm guessing there is a healthy Asian population outside if Chinatown though.

That I know. The thing is, times have definitely changed since then and Asians are not viewed in the same manner, nor do I feel that they view Caucasians in a negative light. This has resulted in a much lower rate of segregation between the two communities. That's just from my experience.

Yea, a better way of putting it.

Don't forget the Chinese though. They REALLY hate them as well.

The feelings are definitely mutual there.
