Tips about Algebra

I'm about to take an Algebra course at my local college this summer and wanted to ask y'all if there are any tips or advice you have that can make algebra easier? Like, certain ways to solve equations and what not that makes it more simple? I'm not a math-oriented person, I've always been a history and language-oriented person, so I really will have to work hard in this class, which I'm fully prepared to do. But if any of you guys have any suggestions on how to simplify Algebra as much as possible, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

The Tech board might be a better place to ask for assistance or hints.

Pro Tip:
It's a middle school level math class. Do you think you're smarter than an 8th grader?

They offer algebra at college?

honestly, in algebra (and all maths above that), there is just a certain amount of it that you have to just accept...you are not gonna always understand the theory and origin....
just learn the rules on how to manupulate equations well and using them will not be bad at all....

1. You won't get many serious answers here.
2. The answer is 288.
3. (Seriously) write EVERYTHING out, each step, line by line. Then when you screw up and get the wrong answer, you can go back and find where you made your mistake and hopefully not repeat it too often.
I haven't had Algebra since high school, but my daughter has been doing pre-Algebra stuff and that's what seems to help me help her.
ETA: See, iamBatman know the correct answer too.

Honestly the key to having a math mind is not thinking of everything in rules and steps to solve. It's understanding how to manipulate an equation. Algebra is all about knowing that one side of the equal sign is the exact same as the other. So if you do one thing to one side and then to the other, they're still equal. Remember a few rules (I realize thus is contradictory to what I just said about rules, but these are simple rules, not "follow these 10 steps rules") and practice until you realize whats the most efficient way to attack a problem from experience. Reduce it until you isolate your unknown variables and you're done. It sounds complicated, but it's really not. People just build math up to be this big scary monster.

I can tutor you. Seriously, I have been doing it for years.

When you need to check your work, I recommend checking out mathway.com and WolframAlpha.com, those two will help you out a lot.
Same here.

If a concept is giving you difficulty just keep repeating the steps to work out the problem. As a previous poster alluded you will understand some math and the rest you just need to memorize the steps to work out the problem.
Good luck.
