Does Yeti guarantee no ice melting ever or something? Just wondering why anyone would pay $300 for an ice chest.

Yeti's are cumbersome, expensive, and heavy. Igloo's are not.

Yeti does a good job at explaining and marketing the most effective way to ensure you get the most out of your cooler. They go out of their way to tell you that a yeti isn't some magical device that will store ice for a week if you just drag it out of your hot garage and fill it with ice and beer.

They do tell you that if you "pre cool" the cooler (add some ice to cool the insulation before you add your storage ice and perishables) then their cooler will hold ice longer than the competition. What they fail to tell you is that this works with every cooler, yeti just markets this common sense idea.

Its the sticker. No one uses a yeti, because of the price, will be stolen. I have a NOT YETI sticker on my truck, and the budweiser styrofoam ice chest I bought for 5 dollars, in the bed, is still there.

I have two yetis, I put the smaller one INSIDE the bigger one and keep ice for weeks.

I also put a yeti sticker on top of my yeti sticker on my back endow to stay consistent.

The official answer would be, "rotomolded, permafrost foam injected, single rod aluminum hinge, T-Rex handles, etc." I can't tell you how many people have asked the same question in my store. Then, once they see one at their friend's house or get to use one, they come buy one..or two.

The bottom line is that you have to make that value judgement for yourself. However, I am a top 5 dealer in central and south Florida and I have never had one complaint from a customer but I have had tons of referrals and repeat customers...and I offer Coleman Marine as well.

The yeti has stickers, customizable screens, and street cred.

Igloo has the same style of ice chest for around 50 cents a quart cheaper. Thick insulating walls are what make it cost more.

This is an ongoing battle on the OB board. I have both and when you are in South LA fishing in August there is nothing that will keep ice from melting.

My dad is a shrimper and have used Igloo ice chests since forever. Only needing to replace it when the handle breaks.

Some people he knows at the dock replace theirs every year. Why? Its a Yeti and they get it stolen in the middle of the night.

If you need to keep "ice cold for over a week" at home, its called get a freezer.
