If it's not been posted on Moodle, no one has access to it. If it is, you should be able to access it yourself. ISDS 710 is a new course offering so no one is going to have it otherwise

@Paul Allen

I can't seem to find much information on MADM 720, but I see that you're one of the few people that has taken it. I am pairing it with a Data Analytics course (new to the program). I realize you won't be able to speak to that pairing specifically, but would you be able to shed some light on what MADM 720 was like for you?

Syllabus for ACCT701 with McGee is up.

7 Quizzes, 7 Assessments and a Final. The final is weighted heavily at >26%. All of the items mentioned are open book and note but time limitations force one to stay current. Quizzes are not timed, Assessments give approx 4.5 min per question and the Final 3 min per question.

Not sure what to make of it but I have to say one thing, McGee is on the ball, materials posted one week before with welcome materials, textbook and all. She has laid out the course in a clear and organized fashion. You can read ahead all the way to the end now if you want.

This may be a good class. Now only if my wild card BADM790 turns out to be just as organized (adjunct prof, I doubt it) it may be a good term.

Good luck to everyone in Summer AP1, enjoy your final 4 days of freedom!

So far, I am impressed with McGee. I have already reviewed Chapters 1, 2 and 6. Only thing I am unsure of is if the quizzes and assessments are proctored. This is my first class and I wish there was an example video on how to register/set-up the proctor service. I was accepted at University of Louisiana at Lafayette and I believe they have to pay a fee for the proctor service. I decided to enroll with LSUS because of this thread and the wealth of information available in it. Good luck to you in ACCT701 TigerDragon435!

Hello all,

I will be starting the online program this coming fall and I was looking for some insight on what classes would be best to start off with. My undergrad studies were not business related (despite 1 Econ class) so the majority of the material will be new to me. Also, which professors would be recommended and which ones to shy away from.

Thanks,
JMeaux

Thanks,

Having no prior accounting or finance courses, would it be a good idea to take Madm 700 to get the fundamentals down?

That's a decision you have to make

If you have half a brain, don't waste time on foundation courses. I have a B.S. in Business Administration; but even if I didn't, after reading the first two chapters of ACCT 701, it wouldn't affect me. Basically, the class is doing a quick recap. If I were you, I would go watch some YouTube videos like Finance 101 and Accounting 101 and get the basics down. There is this one CPA on YouTube that does a great job explaining accounting. His YouTube channel is cpastrength. I'm doing this exact thing before I start any class just for a recap or in your case, fundamentals. People are building houses in this country just by watching YouTube lol. BTW, if you are starting in fall, you have plenty of time to get the fundamentals down with self study. Get your notebook, laptop, podcasts and start learning.

Thanks for the feedback rivermonsters87, just checked with my doctor and he confirmed that I do indeed possess half of a brain. Ha. So I should be good.

Just found the forum after a classmate turned me on to it.

MADM715: Wren is getting absolutely brutalized in the course reviews. Not surprised with negative reviews but the # of them are astounding. I talked to a handful of people during the course and all were disgusted at some of her comments in email.

I see this, and I have my issues with the workload, but this was truly the whiniest class I've taken at LSUS. I don't like the no reviews either, but FFS, it's school policy not to let us see our answers anymore. That's not the teachers fault.

It turned out to be a high workload class with all the reading, but it's not like the material was all that difficult. To go to the class forum and just see complaining wasn't useful.

I'm torn, because, yeah, the reading workload sucked, I completely agree there, but I don't want watered down courses either.

It wasn't the amount of reading that was the problem, it was the amount of repetitive information throughout the readings week after week. Every test (minus maybe quiz 7) had grammatical errors or duplicate answer choices. The class wasn't hard per se but it was taught in a way that made me not want to get involved or even try my best.

Summer AP1 will be my last semester in the program and for the students just beginning their trek through the program just know that MADM715 was an anomaly. I have truly learned a great deal and been taught by some great professors.

JMeaux,

I'm fairly new to the program (will begin my 3rd course on Monday). My undergrad isn't in business or finance. I didn't bother taking the refresher courses but so far I'm doing just fine. As someone else stated, youtube a few videos on finance 101 if you get lost. Good luck to you!

Syllabus for BADM790 is up. Looks like a lot of work but all "mini" assignments with some group activities. A lot of opportunities for points, doesn't look half bad. I'm in this with ACCT701, should be an interesting 7 weeks. I'll be 7 in after AP1 with 3 more to go wrapping in Fall AP2.

Well said. Most everyone was frustrated that nothing whatsoever was reviewed by her beforehand for the course. The exams were horribly worded/incomplete & progressively got worse. Wound up getting grade I wanted but unquestionable the course was just thrown together. Hopefully she uses the time between courses to restructure the material and takes the time to review what she's presenting. Combine that with doing weekly Zoom sessions and the course would be much much better.
