Considering registering for ISDS 710 and MADM 720 for Summer AP1...

Good Idea? Bad Idea?

Probably not the best idea. ISDS 710 being an unknown is the first issue. With MADM 720 being an elective, you may get very little feedback on it. I suggest checking out the professor on Rate My Professor. I'm sure it's doable, but I would do my research before diving in and make sure I had the time to devote to each.

Hi there! I'm looking to start the program and I have some questions regarding the general track. How many classes use proctoring? Which classes are most demanding/time consuming/difficult?

I wish I could, but I'm locked in on my tuition re-imbursement and FIN 701 filled up in the summer session before I could register. If I don't double up, then I will be waiting for Spring 2019 AP1 before MKT 701 or FIN 701 show up again in the rotation.

I'm hoping to get the information on the syllabus for FIN701 before the course and spend some time here in Summer AP1 doing self study to prepare, since I think Vines keeps his course material consistent term over term.

I was in Dr. Meeks class as well, submitted paper yesterday as well and a bit nervous about it as well.

Most, if not all courses now use some sort of proctoring service. As far as difficulty goes, I suggest reading through this thread to see what others have said. It's a useful tool

Just finished ISDS 705 exam. I wasn't able/didn't feel like googling some of the questions so cheers to my educated guesses.

Far from prepared for MADM 715 exam this week. It's been a tough week for me and I was unable to really read anything. I have about 24 hours to get my life together. Did anybody attend the zoom session? I'm going to watch the recording.

MADM715

I gave up on prep and took the test. No easy last test here. It's about the same as last weeks.

I did pull off the grade I wanted, and all in all learned a lot in the course. Her zoom session was great, and I wish she had done something similar the other weeks in the course.

Good luck everyone, and enjoy the break!

Looks like they just received recertification/extension from AACSB. Not sure how often they are required to go through the process - maybe every 5 years?

Just finished up the program. Felt like I got a lot out of it and have recommended LSUS to several people thinking about getting their MBA. I had positive feedback on every course I took with some room for improvements except for ECON with white.. maybe the fact it was my last class and I was at a point I just wanted to get through it. My biggest complaint was the grammar and type of questions on the test. Seemed they were meant to confuse and multiple questions on the test just didn’t make sense. It also shows that half the students that started the course dropped it. I am not sure what the typical drop rate is and yes I like to see some sort of drop rate but half seems a bit much. Anyway.. good luck to everyone in the program, personally I think you made a good choice and i definitely came away with some useful information.

I am finishing up as well - well hopefully, still waiting on MADM 715 project grade - and I am compelled to share some insight to the new folks / people still going through.

This program has evolved greatly in the past year, some changes for the better, some that required some growing pains. I do think that some things will start settling down now that the accreditation process is complete. For me, I completed the program in a year and had to take the initial BADM courses. I had to double up every term, it is hard but doable.

My take on my course selection below:

MADM 701 w/ Dr. Williams - Very time consuming, tests were difficult but if you do well on the writing portion you should do well in the course.

ISDS 705 w/ Dr. Lin - Easiest course in the program. I encourage everyone to learn a little bit in the course even though you really just have to ctrl F the pdf for tests to pass with a 100. Pair with MKT 701 or a math course you think you will spend a lot of time on.

ACCT 701 w/ Dr. Ambrosio - Great class/professor. Very understanding professor that will take the time to help you with any questions. You will spend some time learning accounting concepts if they are new to you but overall relatively easy course.

MADM 751 w/ Dr. Meeks - One of my favorite courses and favorite professor. This class focuses on understanding entrepreneurship and your understanding/conceptualization of the material. You work in groups so you are able to connect with other MBA students in the program, which is great. Does take some time for reading the material but I would pair it with a math course you are more comfortable with.

ECON 705 w/ Dr. Shaughnessy - Very difficult course content wise for me. However, Dr. Shaughnessy is awesome and really helps out. He meets on Zoom and answers things in a way that helps you understand. I paired this with MADM 752 and it was a decent pairing.

MADM 752 w/ Dr. Knotts - I personally did not like this course and it is an elective so choose wisely. We had academic coaches in this course so you had to understand what they wanted in the papers to get a decent grade. The tests were pretty difficult if I remember correctly ie. taking information from the reading and asked the question in a way to confuse you.

FIN 701 w/ Dr. Vines - As you have probably read, Dr. Vines is a great professor. The information you learn is difficult if you do not have a finance background. However, if you read the material, can say it in your own words and have a decent grasp of the math, you will do great. Attend his Zoom sessions and ask as many questions as you can think of because he will answer them until you understand. I paired this with MKT 701 which made it a very long 7 weeks.

MKT 701 w/ Dr. James- Well, I was not a fan. Insane amount of reading in my opinion. I did very poorly on the exams because there was so much reading. There is a lot of writing in this course as well - I think my final paper was about 35 pages. This class will take all of your time. If you have to pair it, do so with ISDS 705 or an easier course.

MADM 760 w/ Dr. Meeks - Again, Dr. Meeks is a stellar professor. There is a lot of reading and writing but it focuses more on making sure you can conceptualize the material versus being tested on the material in exams. You work with teams which has been a great experience. There is a final paper - about 2000 words. I often did more than this in the weekly writing questions. If you read and put the effort in, you will do fine. He awards extra points if you go above and beyond as well.

MADM 715 w/ Dr. Wren - My least favorite course in the program. Insane amount of weekly reading - sometimes over 300 pages. There were many grammatical errors in the readings as well. The weekly tests were worth about 700 points of your final grade (out of about 1245) so you really had to put most of your time into reading and trying to guess what you will be tested on. The project fiasco was a total mess in my opinion. We were required to have a conclusion for our research in the 3rd week I believe? We turned in our projects 2 weeks ago and there are many still without a grade. I would not recommend this course because it is an elective - unless you absolutely have to. Many people earned their first C in this course.

I hope this has helped some of you because this forum has helped me greatly through my MBA journey. Good luck to everyone!

Just finished the MkT 705 class. Bellarmino does a good job explaining and she also points out what you need to know for the weekly tests, which made them very easy. You shouldn’t have a problem not having a casino background.

Taking this class now also and I think I will end up with a C. It's frustrating because there is no way to know what you missed or challenge wrong answers like other classes. So glad today is the last day.

Oh my God I wish I would have come to forums sooner. I said the same thing about the last 2 quizzes. I was so sure of myself and then I got the grade. Yikes!!

To
add to what Robbie stated, I too am graduating this May. I do agree with all that was already mentioned so I add where we had some differences for the benefit of those starting out:

[quote]MADM 701 w/ Dr. Williams - Very time consuming, tests were difficult but if you do well on the writing portion you should do well in the course.

I took 701 with Knotts and the class was very manageable, the tests were proctored using proctorio. Read the Powerpoints and make notes and you should be fine.

Ditto, I paired it with Meeks' 760 and was a very easy pairing.

Agree, learned a lot and he went an extra mile to help the class.

Did not take.

Just finished it and it was brutal. Needed one more point to get an A.

Took it with Darrat and was an easy A. Find any book from philip kotler on marketing management and you should be fine. That is where his tests were coming from. No project that I remember and tests were not proctored.

A lot of work but very fair grading. One of the best classes in the program. He grades everything personally.

I took this class with Felice Williams and was an easy A, my only complain was that the weekly posts were graded by assistants who were very inconsistent. Other than that, not too bad.

All in all I am happy that I went through. Learned a lot and made the honor society and was able to finish in 5 terms. I also recommend the program to friends and family, even with the new textbook policy. This program is by far the best value AACSB MBA program in the country!

Best of luck to all of you starting this journey. There will be some long nights and frustrating moments, but it will be all worth it.
