ISDS 715 Project Mngmt classmates:

Have y'all noticed that the syllabus shows that we are to have 7 weekly quizzes @ 70 points each, however the weekly schedule only shows a quiz the first 6 weeks and a final the 7th week?

I emailed the professor about this last week but he has not responded to the last 2 emails that I have sent him.

I think he's a good guy, but he does actively teach at 7 or 8 colleges around the nation and is also a lawyer outside of that. If you are having any difficulties I would recommend reaching out to him directly with the moodle chat, he is very responsive. My advice to do well is to read the chapters. I print everything so its rather easy for me to remember where things are with notes and stickers and whatnot.

I'll preface this by saying when I had Ambrosio, the class was easy and straight forward. The 2 "incidents" we had was that the time limit on the first test was really short and something like half the class didn't finish, so the grades were far lower than they should have been. He responded by curving everyone's score up something like 10 points to get the grade distributions right.

There were also technical problems with the site (Cengage, I think) for the final and a bunch of people weren't able to take the final exam before the deadline. In response he offered to let people skip the final and take the grade they had before the exam or they could take the exam at a later date, which bled into the period between classes.

Both were fair solutions and people on the forum seemed satisfied with his responses.

However, it sounds like this time it's really disorganized and his advice is (unintentionally?) misleading. I understand he's a busy guy. When we had him it sounded like he was frequently traveling the world while teaching - like an accounting Indiana Jones. However, that can't be his excuse.

If I can't say, "Sorry my assignment, exam, paper, etc. is late. I have young kids and a demanding full time job. Give me some extra points.", these professors shouldn't be able to say "Sorry my class sucks. I'm really busy. Here are some extra points." and everything is cool. No one should be okay with that, unless all they care about is getting an 'A' stamped on their transcript so they can be on their way.

Hey there, who did you have for ISDS 705? The only offering is Gibbs

Most of us had Binshan Lin for ISDS 705. I'd expect this course to change from the experience everyone who has already taken this course had with Lin. I think the word has gotten out.

3 of these are with new teachers that nobody knows anything about. Wren is the normal professor and that's fine.

MADM760 - take with Meeks, he's one of the better teachers in the program.

ECON705 - take with Shaughnessy, he's a good teacher also.

ISDS705 - people like Lin's class, as it's supposed to be super easy (never taken it / not required as I'm grandfathered into ISDS702 instead)

All three of these professors are still teaching with the program, you're seeing the overflow classes. I would wait for ECON705 and MADM760 at least.

Vines and Meeks are great for any class. Ambrosio is fair. Lin is top choice if the course hasn't changed. Shaughnessy can be tough but I enjoyed the class.

I took Choi for FIN 730 and he grades pretty easy if you put the work in.

There is a back and forth in this thread regarding Knotts and Williams for MADM 701. That will be my last course in the program come Summer AP1, so I'll just be taking whoever is available, and pair it with the new ISDS 710.

I got you. Yea from pouring over the threads, it appears not much intel is given on these professors as much. Seems like they're switching it up a lot. Idk which of those classes I want to take.

Do you favor math style classes or writing classes?
