Not sure if those of you in ACCT have seen what Ambrosio posted about the final, but here it is.
Class,
By now you are already working on Module 6. I know this class has had its ups and downs for some of you due to the redesigning of the course, but I assure you that I have kept a close watch on every single Forum post and class development. I have monitored your scores and made many changes as we went along. Hang in there, you're almost done!
This post is to inform you about some changes that you will notice in Module 7 (next week):
1. Although the module and material will be available on Sunday, the quiz will not open until Monday. The reason is because I need a full day between the close of Module 6 (Saturday) and the start of Module 7 (pushed back to Monday) to assess whether to give an extra credit chance. At this point, it's looking unlikely because the vast majority of you are doing very well and don’t need extra help. However, I want to make a final decision next Sunday while no one is testing, scoring, or taking quizzes.
2. The exam will not open until the Wednesday of Module 7. I learned from Exam 1 that some of you just want to get the class behind and are prone to rush through the exam on the same Sunday it opens. I am preventing you from doing this by keeping the final exam closed until Wednesday. Use the time between Sunday and Wednesday to actually study Module 7.
3. After you take Exam 2, you will not be able to see anything. You will not be able to see your Exam 2 scores, the correct answers, question feedback, or anything else (at least this is my intent). The reason is to prevent you from immediately challenging questions, complaining about your score, or sending me long emails about your feelings or disappointment.
4. Consistently with (3) above, the solutions video will not open until after everyone has taken the final exam. You will be able to see the solutions and view your scores as soon as the exam closes for everyone.

I even checked this morning. Just came up since then.
Down side is that the test window is only 1 day. I like the Vines format which gives you 2.5 days to get it in. This will also be my first class that utilizes proctoring.

I must be missing it, but are the exams still going to be open textbook/notes?

I'm not sure if it was for 702 or 705, but there was discussion in here for this session or last about Lin's tests and even though they were proctored, that yes they were still open book.

It was ISDS 705, but I didn't see it mentioned in the syllabus or on the Moodle page. Just wanted to double check

I'll remain hopeful then, especially with the test format being the same.

The ISDS705 syllabus didn't say tests would be open book last term either (I just checked), but it was posted somewhere in the information on Moodle for the class (which is no longer available for me to view).

For people waiting on graduation information, the reports went to the last office of approval this morning, apparently, and will be on the way to the registrar next. People should feel free to fill out the graduation application and submit it as I mentioned in my previous post.

Hey Guys, I took ISDS 705 last term and it was open book even though it's proctored.
I initially questioned this too and emailed Lin directly to ask. He replied that it was absolutely open book. I know I posted an excerpt of his reply to me here in TD if you search the forum.
The person proctoring has a really easy job, as their only purpose seems to be in checking ID at the beginning to confirm the identity of the student taking it.

Socal77,
I think they're trying to confirm that it's going to be open book again. Any responses that specifically applied to the last session aren't relevant, because the course policy could change for next session.
From what I remember, Dr. Lin put it in his big long list of things to do before the test for each module in Moodle. It will be very clear from his description there. He is clearly the type of teacher that does not want to field the same question from hundreds of students. As I mentioned before, it wasn't in the syllabus last time, so its omission this time does not represent a change.

I'd go ahead and email him directly and ask him. When I emailed him to ask, he responded within 10 minutes and was very cheerful in his reply. I'm sure someone asking again won't bother him.

YES! I was the same way when this class started, but I too am finding myself finishing up on Sunday. Enough already.
