Can't Access Certain Websites After Power Outage?

Power went out yesterday during a storm. While everything was back up and running an hour later, I noticed that I was unable to connect to certain websites on any of my Internet browsers (Safari & Chrome included). I'm on a Mac and tried pinging the sites to no avail - the request was timed out. I tried with another computer in the house, as well as an iPad, and none of the devices could connect.
I cleared the cache, unplugged the modem, restarted, etc. and am still not able to access certain sites. Any ideas?

The sites you can access, can you ping them too ? Try changing your DNS to google's
8.8.8.8

Is it saying that the SSL certification has expired? If so, check and make sure the time and date on your machine is accurate.

You may have a problem with your DNS server. Go to LINK and put in the website that you can't access. It will return the IP address for that site. Then put the IP address in your address bar instead of the name and see if you can get to the website. If so then you will need to fix your DNS server config.

You should highlight these things in your original statement...

Double post half an hour later? Might be a new record.

Yep, went into a meeting, came back and it was on the reply screen. Couldn't remember if I hit submit or not. Guess I had already hit submit and back once, but not all the way back

Very strange - clearer the DNS cache and still won't work. I tried plugging the Ethernet cable in and connectin but it still timed out. I can access the site at work and 3G on my phone.

Have you tried changing your DNS servers as someone stated in the first reply?
Use 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 8.8.8.8

Call Cox and have them reset your router from their end
