I agree with you. We played Baylor twice a year and I can't imagine being less scared of a 7 footer that could shoot. That is part Baylor/Scott Drew though to be fair.

I don't know much about this disorder, but I don't understand why it effectively ends his playing career at this point. He seemed to be OK in college, would you not try to take a low risk flyer on the guy in the 2nd round or as a free agent and see what he can do or how he can hold up over the next couple years. This doesn't put his life in immediate jeopardy right?

Read up on it. It's a degenerative disease. And it's not like diabetes or something that can be managed. His body is going to fall apart.

yeah, Flo Hyman died b/c of heart complications associated with Marfans, while playing

Surprised me it took till the second page of this thread for a KU fan to bash Drews coaching abilities.
IA is a good kid and a talented player. Tough to see this happen to him.

Why did he wear the goggles? After reading the Marfan wiki, i was wondering if it was associated.

How do you play basketball with no depth perception?

I wonder if this whole marfans thing is connected In anyway to his blindness problem. Really sucks because I was really rooting for him

@DwainPrice NBA commissioner Adam Silver has invited Baylor's Isaiah Austin to come to Thursday's NBA Draft as his guest.

Muscle memory.
Best of luck to Austin. Hate to see his NBA dream get destroyed by something so completely beyond his control.

I really hope some team gives him a 10-day contract or something as a show of good faith, that's horrible news for the poor guy.

We were playing in this event called the Marshall County Hoopfest in Kentucky and I got to watch him play once. He never really took over the game, but seeing his skill level at his size made me think he was going to turn into something special.
Hate to hear news like this.

I didn't know much about this guy before today, but damn after reading his story I just feel awful for him. He overcomes the eye injury and losing the eye and then this shite happens. Poor guy.

Very cool dude. He'll get a front office job somewhere.

How was it just discovered now, he fits all the signs of it
Posted on 6/23/14 at 11:01 am to QJenk
quote:yes, it absolutely is. they may have missed diagnosing marfan's back in middle school when he suffered the vision loss because i believe they attributed it to an on-court injury. while that may be true, the same injury that resulted in his retinal detachment would have likely not caused any serious eye injury to one without marfan's. some people with marfan's simply suffer retinal detachment spontaneously.
I wonder if this whole marfans thing is connected In anyway to his blindness problem.
