Diagnosed with the genetic disorder, Marfan syndrome. LINK
According to the National Library of Medicine, Marfan Syndrome is “a disorder of connective tissue, the tissue that strengthens the body’s structures. Disorders of connective tissue affect the skeletal system, cardiovascular system, eyes, and skin.”

Marfan syndrome is an inherited disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue. About 1 in 5,000 people have Marfran syndrome. It was revealed Austin suffered from the disorder during testing as he prepared for Thursday’s NBA Draft.

[Head coach Scott Drew said,] "his health is the most important thing, and while it's extremely sad that he won't be able to play in the NBA, our hope is that he'll return to Baylor to complete his degree and serve as a coach in our program."

Abe Lincoln had Marfans

Really sad to hear. I'd love for him to coach at BU. Such a strong guy who no doubt will be successful in whatever avenue he pursues.

Glad they found it now before something tragic happened on the court or somewhere else.
Good luck to the young man.
Good luck to the young man.

First his eye, now this. That blows. Good luck to him.

It had to have been connected. Marfans causes eye problems, heart problems, foot problems, etc

Damn, I was actually hoping he would be drafted by the Spurs at 30

Right and it causes excessive growth. So ironically having Marfan was probably one of the reasons he became a star in the first place

Damn, that's horrible

Well not similar to Marfan as it's apparently a very degenerative and serious disease. But I'd be willing to bet a good number of these super tall guys have something more benign like gigantism or a minor pituitary disorder

Why? He wasn't that good.

He's a big that can spread the floor. Obviously, whoever is taken at 30 I don't expect much from.

He wasn't nearly as good a perimeter shooter as he thought he was. A 3pt gunner with bad depth perception isn't a great idea.

He was easily one of the best rim protectors in the nation last year.

He had a lot more going for him than most 7-footers. Which isn't saying much, I know. But the vast vast majority of them have virtually no skills and come into the leagues completely raw
