Man of Steel was a high octane, superhero, powerhouse of a movie. The action sequences were a blast, but at times over the top. The score was powerful, but sometimes over the top. The dialogue was poor. Superman and Jorel were great casting, IMO. Everyone else was not.

So.....does that translate to a great movie? No. But IMO it translates to a fun superhero movie.

I enjoyed seeing Superman kick arse like he never has before. A lot of fans enjoyed this. A lot of the fans wanted more of a "I have to save the people" type of mentality from Superman. And in some ways, I think they're right.

For future installments to be more successful, they need to find a better balance for what Superman is. I believe CA 2 found this balance perfectly. CA was badass, and yet he still had that "I will save the people" mentality. Since Superman is fighting on a much higher scale than most superheros, it will be more difficult for them to accomplish this.

He battles with as much speed as the Flash and with the strength of the Hulk. Collateral damage is harder to avoid in that situation.

What that balance is......I don't know. But they need to find it to make Superman complete, IMO

With that being said, I loved Man of Steel.

#1. It wasn't "so hated"

#2. If you would've properly utilized the search feature, the opinions of the Man of Steel that you seek would've been instantly available.

It's not hated.

Is it flawed? Yes. Few movies, superhero or not, are perfect.

Is it fun? Yes.

Is it the best live action presentation of Superman on the big screen? Unquestionably.

I really liked it.

I don't understand the beef. If Superman fought several other supermen who were intent on destroying the planet, there would be mass destruction.

I had two main problems. No way anyone would just let that happen to their father. I don't just call BS, I call eyerolling levels of BS requiring vision repair surgery.

Also the ending. I didn't mind what happened to Zod, but did mind the way it happened. They beat each other up for 2 hours then suddenly snap.

The idea that Superman would never kill perhaps stems FROM what happened in movie one. He now has to deal with the death and destruction he caused so going forward he will strive to do better.

A few million deaths certainly is better than the whole fracking planet.

On this board it may not be hated but its not highly regarded either. IRL most people I know loved it.

I loved it bc it was finally a superman movie without the campiness. It was violent and kind of gritty. Superman was cast perfectly, his costume looked great, the story was good enough, and the dialogue wasnt bad enough to distract from the movie. It was exactly the Superman movie I'd been wanting.

I liked it better on rewatch, but didn't enjoy it much at the cinema. It just didn't have the "charm" that the old ones had, especially regarding the Lous relationship. Thought Henry Cavill was great though.

i alwasy kinda chuckle when i think about the ending. They fight all around Metropolis destroying hundreds of acres of the city, but when they finally come to a stop, it just so happens that they land right next to Lois.

Michael Shannon was my favorite part of the film. He was excellent as Zod.

I liked it for the most part.

Lois sucked as most female roles in superhero movies do. Why the hell she was planted in every pivotal scene I don't know. She's just Superman's side piece. They should have changed the entire story by writing her out of the script. Or delay the romance for a few movies.

Yes, there were some flaws to the movie and it was a little over the top. But I thought the point of the movie was showing how Superman grew up as a "different" person than everyone else and then had to grow into the morally superior superhero we recognize.

It's a shitty story to say Superman just is a wonderful messiah who never kills and cares for humanity and limits collateral damage when he can. It's much more interesting to portray the growth.

Things I fricking hated to no end - 711, IHOP, Sears, Nikon and the other 5000 things prominently plugged. Lois Lane either should've been a bit player or not in the movie at all. And the casting for that one role was dreadful.

Things I disliked: The disaster porn portion was over the top. I get that superman can only be tested by an equal being, and that such a genocidal maniac would create such destruction, but still over the top. Then in the final scene, everything is fricking fine. After looking like Hiroshima.

Things I liked: pretty much everything else. I don't mind ghost zod at all, nor the certain nit picks (like his suit being on the ship and in wonderful condition or superman explaining to zod how to adapt to the planet in a taunt) it's not even worth discussing. I absolutely loved the costume design, particularly for the kryptonian survivors. I thought the casting was great (aside from lois lane), the effects were great. The scene with superman fighting in downtown smallville was tits. The action was well staged. The look was right, the feel was right. Particular mention for Michael Shannon and the crazy bitch.

This movie is hated too much. Again, I liked it better than the avengers (which is a nonsensical borefest)

Like so many Zac Snyder movies, it lacked a soul. It may as well have been a Michael Bay movie. I actually got bored because I wasn't invested in it. Action is a good thing in a superhero movie. Too much action is not.

Bottom line: the movie was long on fights and short on substance, and it suffered as a result.

It was the complete opposite of fun. It was a great action flick but a terrible Superman movie. The only decent casting in that abortion was Michael Shannon and Kevin Costner. I'm sorry but thousands of people should not be dying in a superman movie.

I didn't know people hated it. I enjoyed it and it had great action scenes. I also saw it in IMAX 3D though

I thought that, while there were some very promising things, it ultimately tried way too hard and had some pretty bad pacing issues. Also because it was so hyped you could make a case that it had no chance in the first place. It tried to be dark but the backstory of Clark Kent is pretty damn cheesy. The only reason the Dark Knight trilogy was so good is because the way the characters and the setting were set up it made everything seem, to an extant, real and believable.
