like No Child Left Behind?

No, it is not. If it were controlled at the federal level, how any states do you think could opt out?
Louisiana has the right to change anything it wants at any time, and just because state competency scores versus other states are aggregated at the federal level doesn't mean it is controlled at the federal level.

Proof, please. Since you are 100 percent wrong.
It was craated by a group of states and governors, OF WHICH JINDAL WAS ONE. The ONLY involvement that the feds have is that they are encouraging the use of it, via race to the top funds and block grants.
THAT'S IT.

You know what the problem was with no child left behind? It was federally developed without the input of the states and districts.
Common Core is the exact opposite.

It's sort of tough to argue that these types of things have not been coercively utilized by the federal government in the past in many other areas, though.
Nevertheless, what Jindal seems to have done here, surely looks suspect.

You don't even read your own damn thread before responding. He already referenced Race to the Top and its place in Common Core.

No, it's motivation, dipshit. What does anyone offer as an incentive for the attainment of certain standards?
Why exactly is the legal drinking age in the states 21? Why do you pay FICA?

My daughter was in Kindergarten this past school year. I liked the idea of having higher standards for the kids. She knows the majority of the parts of speech, how to read, write 4-8 sentences on a topic, addition and subtraction tables up to 10 and even some multiplication in there.
The thing that I didn't like about it was the implementation of it. My daughter was introduced to it in Kindergarten so she wasn't taught any differently. These kids that were in 2nd, 3rd, etc. they were having to play catch up and so were the teachers. It seemed like it needed to take 13 years to fully implement and start with the Kindergartners and work their way up.

Solid argument.

I agree with this. It should have been gradually introduced to older kids. My son struggled with it a lot last year, but turned a corner this year. My daughter started kindergarten last year and has done really well with it.
This just shows how powerful a few wingnuts spreading lies and propaganda can be.

If Common Core stays in place, perhaps in five or ten years, TD posters won't lack the mental faculties to answer silly questions like this.
ETA: Look at the evil federal government supporting a state education initiative.

Yeah... cause it turns out their kids aren't smart enough to pass the exams. Oops. That's the thing with higher standards... it's going to take some time to catch up.

I agree completely. I was a math teacher and I was in support of the Common Core Standards - especially the emphasis on mastering the fundamentals and not just memorizing some acronyms.

Common Core is all about application and logic skills, not rote cramming and memory dump for tests.
