Jindal asked to veto alcohol sales at movie theaters

Ice-cold beer and buttery popcorn? They’re already on the menu at AMC theaters in Harvey, Metairie, Harahan, Houma and Hammond as well as Celebrity Theatres in Broussard.
Senate Bill 654 would allow other commercial film theaters across the state to stock alcoholic beverages. The bill squeaked out of the Louisiana House with exactly the number of votes it needed. Now it’s before Gov. Bobby Jindal, who is under pressure to veto it.
On the governor’s desk are letters from legislators and a vocal church congregation. They all ask Jindal to stop the bill from becoming state law.

Previous leadership at the state Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control granted exceptions for theaters that strictly are in business to sell movie tickets. Theaters in Harvey, Metairie, Harahan, Houma, Hammond and Broussard received permission to sell alcohol. Last year, AMC Theaters announced plans to sell wine at its cinemas in Baton Rouge.
A meeting with Troy Hebert, the current commissioner of the state Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control, quickly shelved those plans.
What AMC Theaters needed was an exception, and Hebert wasn’t willing to give one. He wants to preserve movie theaters as an alcohol-free venue for families.
“I’ve never granted one because I’m not for it. It’s not enforceable. My daddy used to say the best place to hide in public is in the back row of the picture show,” Hebert said.

I wonder what the freedom and liberty loving conservative governor will do.
Is there anyone here who does not support this bill??
Man, these ridiculous alchohol laws get my blood boiling sometimes. And with Troy Hebert at the helm of the state ATC, things aren't looking to improve.

I'm sure he'll live up to his small government credentials.

I've snuck my flask into every movie I've been to since 2008. Don't go much, but it's more fun.
Oh, and Troy Hebert, frick you.

Most movie theaters do that over here in Dallas. I am kind of surprised Studio Movie Grill has not made its way to NOLA yet

Why isn't it "allowed" anyway? Is there some prohibition on them getting licenses?

What the frick does this mean? How do seemingly retarded people always end up appointed or elected to our state government?

Wouldn't know; they're ILLEGAL in Louisiana!

Alamo Drafthouse is all over Austin and is the only theater I'll go to now. Ticket prices are the same as other theaters and they serve alcohol and food at your seats. Everyone here loves it, including families with children, churches, etc.
I assumed Louisiana was more lenient on alcohol laws. We still can't buy liquor on sundays and can't buy beer from a gas station after 12a.

What the hell does quote" best place to hide in public is back of a picture show" have to with the alcohol issue? Seems like someone could still hide out?
This is one of the only issues in BR I actually care about. I will be severely disappointed if this bill is vetoed. Nola AMC has it right. SERVE THE DAMN BEER!
