selling it in a grocery store is a bit extreme, but the point is that I believe that drugs should be legal

Are these as dangerous as heroin?
What happens when you have a 14 year old daughter and she wants to try it out and some shitstain buys it for her? You ok with that?

I dont believe it is. Not anymore extreme than the other things that are sold in grocery stores.

So wouldnt you be for a process by which every homeless person gets a roof over their head, a bed, 3 meals a day, exercise, and a possibility toward a better life?
Through charity and individual giving through churches and foundations, absolutely. I would go one step further and say I'm for doctors and people within faith and other fields to volunteer time to help find out how to best get them to meet their needs. That's being done right now matter of fact, through churches like Bethany and Miracle Place.

Sure, but not by using the coercive power of the state.

I have much more than you know. Both with close family members and volunteer work.
Then you're a heartless person if that's the truth and you actually support criminalizing being homeless.
quote:
I never said i wanted to throw them in jail. I asked if people would support such a bill. No need to project your thoughts onto me.
Your statements made it sound like you favored criminalizing and incarcerating the homeless.
quote:
Life itself on this planet is fleeting. If we are to accept your hypothesis that any person can snap and be homeless in an instant without much of a push then can we not accept the opposite hypotheses, that some homeless people may be able to turn their situation around?
Did I say anything about it not taking much of a push to cause someone to have a mental breakdown? (projecting your thoughts onto me perhaps?) No, I said it could happen quickly. A good example would be if a man got a call saying his wife and kids had just died in a fiery car accident. In one instant his whole family that he'd built is wiped out. Those things happen and very often when they do people break mentally. Some recover, but not all. Some spend the rest of their life stuck in a an unending hell.

Alcoholism, DUI deaths, alcohol fueled fights and crimes and murder. Sure.
Advil, etc can kill someone if taken beyond the recommended dose. So yes.

NO i am not. I am also not ok with some shitstain buying my 14 year old daughter alcohol or cigarettes. This doesn't help your argument. In fact, by that logic, are you for taking all form of mind altering substances off the shelves? How else will we protect our children?

You're ridiculous. I don't smoke weed but I'm in favor of legalization. You think heroin is on the same level as alcohol and cigarettes..

Again, i have never said that.

This is the problem with having discussions many times. Rather than discuss the issue someone inevitably applies the unpopular side to a person and attacks that person.
quote:
I said it could happen quickly.
So couldn't the opposite happen quickly? Not every homeless person is a mental patient who snapped. We look at the whole.

You honestly think that Advil is as dangerous as heroin? Come on now.

It did. People who aren't willing to help themselves destroy others in the process that don't understand what a lost cause is.

You ok with your 14 yr old daughter having a beer while smoking a cigarette and some weed but heroin is where you draw the line?
quote:
You think heroin is on the same level as alcohol and cigarettes..
In terms of danger and addiction possibility? No. In terms of people's free choice? yes. There is nothing more hypocritical than people who laugh at the possibility of banning alcohol and cigarettes from stores and in the same breathe denounce decriminalization of all drugs.
Why is it that it is perfectly legal to buy a pint of everclear 3 times a day and drink until you literally cannot function anymore but do the worlds smallest amount of heroin and you go to jail?

Would you vote for a bill which made homelessness i.e. sleeping on the streets, in parks, begging for money, etc... illegal activities?
No, but I would vote for a bill that allows them to be institutionalized again, as long as there was adequate funding. Hell, maybe we can stop buying 22 million dollar planes for bombing random people in the middle east and spend some of that state side for our own problems?
quote:
Would it be ok with you if the police rounded up the homeless and threw them in jail? Maybe create new jails just for homeless offenders?
Violent offenders yes, most homeless no. A large portion of the homeless have mental issues and can't function in society. The libertarian in me struggles with an issue like this.

They can both kill you quickly. Death is pretty dangerous.

So let's clear the air here. Do you support criminalizing being homeless? Yes or no?
quote:
This is the problem with having discussions many times. Rather than discuss the issue someone inevitably applies the unpopular side to a person and attacks that person.
I thought this was a civil debate and was quite enjoying the back and forth. Folks can debate and be civil at the same time.
quote:

I agree that not all have mental issues. But if you take a "one size fits all" approach to homelessness then while on the one hand you do scoop up those who are just lazy, you'll also be punishing those have no control over their own fate.

I'm ok with someone 18 doing these things.

Yes. Yes you could say that's where I draw the line. Maybe even a little before heroin..
