But we already knew this, didn't we? I know there are a certain percentage of people that have a medical condition with contributes to their weight. But that % is far lower than some people want you to believe.

My physical condition is my responsibility. I've lost almost 40lbs since Jan 1st by running regularly and eating smarter. Not some crazy diet, I just make better choices. I don't eat fast/junk food. I eat chicken, lots of veggies, limit my bread. I'm trying to cut out diet sodas, and I've progressed down to 1 a day (from around 5 or 6.)

You know what? I feel better. I have more energy than I have in years. I can run 5 miles regularly with no problem. I ran the CCC for the first time in my life. I'm registered to do my first half marathon this fall.

Its not some voodoo secret. I'm 32 years old and made the decision that I wanted to be in the best shape of my life by the end of the year. You are responsible for your actions.

Well said, it's a lifestyle change.

Not sure why you are shocked. People who are that size have built up a pretty great wall of denial. They also (like anyone would) will get defensive if they are attacked or feel attacked.

But to be honest, they arent really happy and they aren't healthy. Exercise takes effort and when you are that size, I can't imagine it being fun. Factor in their lack of will power and there really is nothing that can be done. Also you facotr in the efforts made by a certian poster on this board who is going through weight loss through surgery (he's being proactive and handling the situation) and people still want to hate on him because he didn't lose it the "right" way. Like it makes a difference in the end.

The "fat-shaming" threads do get a bit old on here and the responses are always the same canned answers of hating people for being a certain size.

And get in to car wrecks and die. Your point is worthless. If you are trying to say that fat people DON'T typically have more health problems than those who aren't fat, you are wrong

I quit drinking and smoking (both of which I did to the extreme),on the same day. Don't give me any excuses about caffeine.

Just making an observation that sometimes the outer appearance of a person doesn't tell the entire story. It was a littel tongue in cheek, but I figured most on here would be smart enough to get that.

Agreed, I guess I underestimate the power of denial.

I am all for what he is doing. I know some people believe there are other ways, but I know someone who took his route with good results. I applaud him for making an effort to change.

I really wasn't trying to fat shame. I guess I have been out of the loop with the way obese people stand on this issue.

will power

This is it. It's not just losing weight that takes this. A lot of problems require this to be resolved. shite, I wish I had more will power at times.

Healthism? BWAHAHAHAHA.

I'm not even really as much of a fat shamer as many on here, but that's fricking pathetic. Exercising is hard? Geez. How pathetic.

Had a friend who lost 100 pounds in under a year by eating 800 calories a day. Thats it. She didnt exercise and still lost all that weight.

Change in weight = (Calories in) - (Calories out)

That is it. Its that simple. Yes, you should exercise to help stimulate a more positive calorie burn and gain the physiological improvements but you can do it without exercising. Anyone that says different is stupid and a burden on society.

You'd be shocked at the number of people that don't know the calories or fat content in Ranch Dressing.

More often than not, Ranch dressing is easily equal to the calorie content of the rest of your salad and double the fat content.
