"There was about a five second interview. She said, who are you? I said, I'm a pilot. I was trying to be to the point. She said, what do you fly? I said, I'm an Air Force pilot. I flew B-1's. So she said, OK, close the door, have a seat, we're going to Omaha," he recalled.
I fly B1s, NO BIG DEAL

That's awesome. However, if I were ever on a flight and the call for a doctor and then a pilot came over the PA, I would shite my pants.

"Attention passengers. Are there any doctors on board? Also, are there any pilots on board?"

I think every private pilot has a secret wish for this to happen when they're on board. I let my license lapse a long time ago, but I think I could actually pull it off - with an assist from the the ground. The B1 pilot was correct when he said in effect... "Motor oil's motor oil". They all have the same controls and obey the same laws of physics.

He emphasized that she did all the flying, he just helped out.
He's almost certainly telling the truth, she's a pilot fully-qualified on her aircraft and he isn't. But he has experience flying big multiengine aircraft and that certainly would have helped with checklist management, communication and so forth.

Happened to my brother (physician) on flight to California. About an hour from landing, the call came because some guy was having trouble breathing and felt like he was having a heart attack. My brother went back to see him. The flight attendant said that the pilot was going to land at the nearest airport. My brother told the attendant that he could keep the guy alive for an hour because he didn't want to be stuck at some random airport.

" And by the way, are there any fire suppression experts on board? Also, we may have a need for a jet engine mechanic, but that's not a definite."

So it went down like this right?

I remember watching something on how this never happens. Good thing that when it did, it was OK because there was another pilot!
