10 pages of posters who have no concept of schooling outside south LA, therefore it must be the same throughout the country.

My son currently goes to a public elementary school in EBR. If the new St. George district doesn't come to pass, I'll be sending him to a private school for middle/high school. No way would I ever send my kid to a public middle school in their current state.

My kids go to great public schools in Texas, as long as you don't mind the fact that they change every few years how they teach math.

I would have no problem sending my kid to public school in Lake Charles (Barbe), Ruston, West Monroe, or any of the legit charter/magnet schools in the larger cities in LA.
I think good public schools are actually more beneficial for development/discipline than the average catholic school. It exposes you to a lot more during common classes and events (PE, random social studies classes, athletics), while making sure they are in an AP/Gifted class for important stuff like English, math, physics, chemistry, etc.

Depends what state and city you are in. In wealthy cities or neighborhoods, public school.

No one "prefers" public. There are many factors that prevent some from going private. I couldn't care less what anyone says in their reply to your topic, they all would be happy to be private.

Homeschool kids aren't weird because they are homeschooled
many are homeschooled because they are weird to begin with.
Depends also on what you considered weird.

It is all about the school district. We live in an excellent school district.
The property values are high because of the excellent schools and therefore generate lots of tax revenue to fund the excellent schools. Not to mention there is no bus service in the district to help keep the riff-raff out. All of the lawyers and docs that pay $$$ for private education in BR, are the ones sending their children to public school here.
Bottom line, it is all about where you live.

Not true, as others have posted, it depends on where you live.

Here's what I don't get about homeschooling: How do you teach older kids advanced high school courses? I'd think that parents who are qualified to teach physics, trigonometry, U.S. history and English literature all at the same time would be pretty rare.

Maybe not in Baton Rouge or NOLA. In West Monroe, everyone goes public.

Private in LA definitely.
Public in certain areas of Houston, public. Granted, the private are likely a little better but insanely expensive ($20k+/year).
My kids go to an outstanding public school with elitists demographics. Hell, I'm the trash here.

My wife taught all 3 of my kids all the way through K-12. All graduated college with honors. 2 with post grad degrees.
Parents only have to stay a few pages ahead in the book

I guess it depends on where you live, but I wanted my kids to have a Catholic education.
