quote:Not if the her prescribed drug is not covered by her policy. This is happening a lot. That is why supplemental plans will become even more important to your benefits package. Especially now that the ACA is in affect. A supplemental plan would have alleviated a lot the OP's mother's problem.
If your mother buys a policy NOW, which she can't be denied because of her cancer, she doesn't have to worry about that pre-2014 policy exception because it wouldn't apply to her. She WOULD have a $6350 oop maximum that WOULD include her prescription... as long as the prescription is approved for her particular cancer, I guess.
Ausrob1, So sorry to hear about your mom and I will say a prayer for her.

I'm really really sorry, rob. Glad to hear you're doing your best to keep strong for your mom. I can't even imagine...
Echoing what others have said, though: frick cancer.

Thanks again everyone, I know we have our differences in the game of politics...but I knew that I could count on this group for tips, advice, information and not a little bit of morale boosting.
I won't forget the kindness you guys have shown.

Hey Rob, human to human and putting aside our viewpoints,
I'm sorry to hear about this. Hang in there.

I haven't read through the responses but my sister faced a similar fate and she was lucky enough to be selected in trials. If I were you I would just call and ask as many cancer centers as you can. Houston has the finest in the south with MD Anderson.
Im sure with enough of us on this board reading and responding you'll get enough info for a great start.
Good luck friend.

I lost my mother 10 years ago this month to cancer at the ripe old age of 51. Prayers to you and your family.

Best of luck. I also linked a really good primer earlier in the thread that I give to my patients / families. It is a great resource for all things urology (if you drive around the site).

There, but for the luck of fate, go I, and everyone else on this board. Just as everyone rallied around the untimely demise of los angeles tiger, so shall you have friends and comrades in your journey here. I'm deeply sorrowful for your angst and pain and hope you find peace, new kinships and a profound respect for the fleeting moments we all share.

Wow. From someone your mother's age, she died way too young. Sorry for your loss.

Sincere thoughts and comfort to you, Rob. I lost my mother, her two brothers, and two brothers-in-law within a ten year span all to cancer. It is a difficult time but you can only do what you can do. Exhaust all your medical options and then rely on the strength you get from family and friends. Hope you get through this ok.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Sad also that you refuse to acknowledge God, who could provide you comfort, if not healing for her. Pleased that so many offer their prayers despite your ridicule of such things.

ASURob, it doesn't matter that you and I disagree on almost every social/political/religious issue discussed on this board - I am sincerely sorry that you are going through this, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your mother.

Don't have any info to help, but I wanted to say that I'm terribly sorry to hear about your mom. Whatever happens, stay strong.

There are certain instances in this life, CB...where man's ignorance and lack of faith for what is clearly seen, creates a bad perception of any possible dynamic interaction with God, in that God allows/ordains the suffering of the best of us. Along with the worst. There is no foul on the part of any individual who would questions such (perceived) callous injustice.
If one truly desires to bear witness to the power of Love to them who "refuse to acknowledge God" - for valid reasons - one had best leave the 'sword' in it's sheath...and witness with love. Lest one harden the heart of them suffering...and seriously challenge the idea that the effect of God's power on people who claim it, is even desirable or worth having faith in. Seeing is believing.
Bottom line. Don't kick somebody while they are down. Harms the Faith...harms the potential for love.
No bad feelings here; the only reason I commented, is so that Rob won't have to. He's got enough on his plate for now.
Discernment, bro. Critical.
