You can do that without the operating costs of a 24/7 network.

What other network will show classic SEC games throughout the summer? Oh, ESPN classic? Not remotely the same.

Taking a Arkansas at Auburn game to the SEC network when it would have already been televised is just
using the channel to force viewers to buy yet another channel on their already bloated tv channel lineup.

If you hate it so much why not just go to the game? Teh point of the SECN has nothing to do with the 14 saturdays a year that football is on. It's about the programming during the other 9 months of the year.

I was speaking more about the internet, which has a high capacity for video throughput such as old SEC classics.

That isn't quite how they are using it. They are loading the SEC network to force the average viewer to buy it to see the exact same amount of football games.

The number of people who want to hook up a cable from their laptop to their TV and watch an old youtube video pales in comparison to people who would rather just watch it on TV.

Why do you still not comprehend that the network is for MORE THAN FOOTBALL? Yes, it will change football Saturday viewing schedules a small bit. Your team will be affected once, maybe twice a year. Big deal.

They are putting games on it to drive demand to force providers to pick it up. Many of the games on there are the shitty FCS games that would be PPV or some nonsense anyways

Because they'll prop Finebaum up 24/7 as an "expert."

I'm not a fan of the SEC taking advantage of the sticky situation around the cable television industry.

I'd love to see the SEC make money and all, but bloating my already crazy high bill with yet another nickel or dime is just a bit much when the amount of non-football games I'll end up watching will likely be lower than a dozen.

100 mens basketball games divided by team means I'll probably get a handful of Bama hoops games.

Cool. SEC:Network isn't entirely a good thing though.

edit:
I've said my piece and I'll agree to disagree.

note of interest:
Everyone seems to forget that this is an ESPN venture, correct?

Then it sounds like you aren't really the target market for the network, so don't buy it. There, problem solved.

If you're worried about missing the one bama game a year that might be on it, just drive an hour west and go in person.

and for people like me who have moved out of SEC country, it's basically impossible to watch SEC basketball/baseball. I'm psyched about being able to stream every LSU game. I don't care if a football game is on a different channel than before. I would generally just stream anything on ESPN3 anyways

No, it'll be nothing but replays of Jefferson Pilot broadcasts from the mid-90's.

Big Ten Network tried doing non-sport programming showcasing each university when it launched and it didn't pull in viewers or ratings so they stopped showing it a few years ago.

True. This could be considered the only disappointment of the BTN. You would have thought shows or documentaries based on the world class academics of the big ten schools could produce some educational programming like documentaries or interviews with some pretty smart people. I thought maybe interviewing history professors or scientists or others would have been kind of neat but it never panned out. There was also talk of arts and performance type programming but that never panned out. Just imagine your favorite professors being able to opine about interesting things. We all had profs at LSU who you know would be good on tv talking about stuff or exploring their research and findings.

As a fellow Georgia fan I expect to see no complaints out of you when Georgia\Tennessee, Georgia\Auburn, or after the CBS deal ends in a few years Georgia\Florida ends up on the network.

OP I understand where you're coming from. The only college sports I care for are football, basketball, and baseball. And football is what I am a fanatic for the most. It suck that they will put a big game or 2 of ours on the SEC network on every year to try and for me to buy there damn network when it will have 0 use and value outside of football season.
I am poor. I can not afford another network cost and having just moved to New Mexico about 2 years ago I'm still struggling to recover financially from a move that I could not afford to begin with so that + distance means unless UGA faces UNM, New Mex State, or UTEP for some bizarre reason on the road I'll not be able to go to a UGA game. Well or I get lucky and have my brother give me tickets to a game + plane tickets back to Georgia but that is not a guarantee and would not happen yearly.

right.

which is why ESPN thinks its worth creating an entire network to specifically air SEC sports all year long.

Wrong. Every team currently has one PPV game a year that is not always accessible nationwide. The SEC Network syndication package is also not available to a large portion of the US.

and BTW, the cost of the network to you?

its going to cost you less for a full year of SECN than it would to order a single PPV football game.
