And if you sat in front of the guy that I do you'd gladly put Hawthorne on the headphones.

He said it could be a double play, it wasn't...that is what could means.

He said there wasn't enough time for the play at first, maybe he should have phrased it slightly differently in a perfect world...but he was pretty on in his description..

quote:

( the ball never made it to first)
No one said it did, if he had he would have said 'throw not in time' or 'the runner beats the throw'

These threads are just dumb as shite.

Amen!

I think some of what's going on is a simple case of "familiarity breeds contempt" type of thing.

I watched bout 2 inning of the SEC game on TV last week or the week before. I think it was Fla. vs. USC. In that short window, the 2 guys made like 3 calls that were wrong in some way. Mistakes happen when guys do play by play. Just like players make mistakes and coaches make mistakes.

If you look for mistakes, you will find mistakes. I'll never understand this "got you" mindset some use with JH, but each to our own.

"got you"

This is it in a nutshell.
It seems there are a few sandy vj folks with a critique pad and pen in hand, instead of enjoying the game.

If anything, the somewhat negative ambiance he emits when things aren't going well is more disturbing than occasional miscalls....... but then I recall he loves The LSU Tigers and gets just as disappointed as I do.

Everyone knows I've complained about Jim a few times on this board. But I have to admit, listening to him call a baseball game adds a whole new dimension to the game.

Even after he tells you what just happened, you have to pay attention and wait for him to reverse what he just told you.

For example, last night Auburn was pitching, "And here's the pitch and it's low and outside for ball 3...................no, wait, he called that a strike!"

Oh yea, I forgot about the self-anointed few who think they reign supreme.

Newsflash: you can follow baseball closely for 3 decades without running up a retarded amount of posts on a website filled with idiocy and narcissism.

A pitch that's obviously a ball, but called a strike by ump?
Unheard of, and Jim should turn in his announcer's license immediately

Thanks for exemplifying the JH microscope.

I know that you were on pins and needles waiting for any type of mistake on JH's part. Glad he didn't disappoint you...

Jim Hoffman and Dave Nitz are the two best play by play guys in the state - and it is not even close.

Nitz is one if the best in baseball at any level - any damn good at football and basketball....but baseball is his money winner. Hoffman is smooth as silk at football pbp.

Old buddy Jack...what do you do in your spare time, other than criticize? You should be so respected or liked as our old buddy. He may not be always perfect but you and I are, right?
