I made the leap and decided to get solar panels. Come on sunny weather I'm ready to save some money.

UPDATE: I got the last step done on getting my solar panels up and running(net meter hooked up) on Wednesday. In 3 days I've taken in 100kwh.

Nice! I would love to put some on my house but the payoff would take several years.....my electric in the heat of the summer only runs $130 or so.

My question is what do you do when its time to repair/replace the roof. How do the mexicans get shingles under the panels?

Are you putting them on your roof or in an array on your yard? The roof saves space, but the array allows the panels to move to follow the sun, easier access for maintenance, and higher energy yields.

Did you check to see if your homeowners insurance covers the replacement if a hurricane rips them off of your roof?

Awesome. Set up the same size system for my parents. I don't remember if they needed a rider or not with State Farm. But in the last hail storm, the roof itself had damage but the panels were unscathed. Insurance covered the labor to remove and reinstall the panels and repair the roof.

Depending on what size system you have, and your usage, saving $100+ is not unreasonable. They're scheduled to pay off the entire unit in just under 5 years as well.

Your neighbors will not be happy looking at that ugly crap, hopefully it can at least be put on the rear of your roof. I see morons that mount them right out front.

I'm in Baltimore this week for work and a lot of people up here have them on their houses and I must admit they are an eye sore for the house

How many panels? Guy told me I'd need 15 or so? End up being ~ $5k after the credits
