Saying Hitler diverted from Moscow to take Stalingrad made me stop watching.

Yeah...that one pissed me off. They kind of got the German offensive of 1942-43 mixed up with the German offensive of 1941. Hitler did indeed divert his main thrust away from Moscow, but that was to help out Army Group South with the capitulation of Kiev. And that occurred in the late summer of 1941.

I thought "The War" by Ken Burns was pretty great. It focuses on people from four American cities - Sacramento, CA, Luverne, MN, Waterbury, CT, and Mobile, AL - and tells their stories in context of the overall war. I'm very ignorant of a lot that went on in the Pacific and it does a great job telling that story. I had no idea about the Philippines occupation, how brutal the Japanese were, and how dropping the bomb had to be done because every Japanese citizen - military and civilian - were willing to fight to the death. I think it was six 90 minute episodes.

Thanks! Starting it right now

plus they did not mention Ike or Bradley even once,

They started with the same dudes from the first episode, Hitler Churchill Stalin, Mac, Patton, etc. and followed them all the way through. What the frick is so hard to understand about what they were doing?

The fact that the name of the Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force wasn't mentioned is a bit of a problem.

I enjoyed it, but never mentioning Eisenhower was a little nuts.

It glosses over the Russian Revolution, makes it appear it happens in 1915-16 instead of March (and again in October) of 1917

The documentary is about the World Wars not the Russian Revolution. They only mentioned it to explain how Lenin gains control of Russia. There is no need for them to go into greater detail

There is a lot of historical disagreement about when Hitler shaved his mustache but most historians I have read say he shaved it in 1919, not 1914. It seems History was just going for dramatic effect with that scene anyway

agreed

Also I didn't like how History made it seem the United States went to war solely over the discovery of the Zimmerman note.

Well not really, they had mentioned the sinking of the Lusitania and how Wilson's advisers wanted him to allocate more spending toward the military because they believed America's involvement in the war was inevitable. It seemed to me that they portrayed the Zimmerman telegraph as the final straw that ensured America's involvement in the war, which it was. Wilson and his administration may have already been planning for war, but the Zimmerman telegraph gave Wilson the peoples' support in declaring war on Germany.

It was good, but it just things superficially, which will happen when you only allot a few hours.

Robert Ryan narrated a great WWI documentary in the 1960s, replete with real footage. Probably 20 or so hours. Some community channel on Eatel was playing it the other day. Great stuff.
