I am almost done with episode one and I am not a big fan. It glosses over the Russian Revolution, makes it appear it happens in 1915-16 instead of March (and again in October) of 1917. There is a lot of historical disagreement about when Hitler shaved his mustache but most historians I have read say he shaved it in 1919, not 1914. It seems History was just going for dramatic effect with that scene anyway.
Also I didn't like how History made it seem the United States went to war solely over the discovery of the Zimmerman note. When that telegram became public, the United States was already all but certain heading into war because the German navy had gone back to unrestricted submarine warfare and were sinking our merchant ships, killing hundreds of Americans in the process. We had warned them in 1915 that if they sank another American ship there would be war. That's why the Germans sent the telegram to Mexico in the first place. They knew that by restarting USW they would bringing America into the war against them. They hoped that Mexico would delay U.S. forces long enough for them to achieve final victory over England and France.

Hard to cover "30 years of war" in a short mini-series but its pretty well produced and good commentary from Powell, McChrytstal et al.
All docs pale in comparison to World at War but it was 25 episodes or so.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

2 World Wars, The Depression, Rise of Hitler and Germany is a lot to cram into 3 episodes. But they've done a nice job so far.

That would be 26 and an additional 8 of unused footage and interviews.

The analogy is this. Imagine you grew up on MTV when they actually played music videos and introduced you to new bands. Now imagine MTV right now going back for 3 nights in a row and showing music videos. Yes you might quibble about the videos they select but you'd probably be happy they were at least playing music videos again.

Did they get Artie Lange to play Stalin?

Pretty sure they just showed a p51 in the Battle of Britain
And I think they showed GIs during the Poland invasion

B17 ballturret and b17 footage as german bomber attacking London. The Germans didn't even have a 4 engine bomber.

It's like this shite was just hastily thrown together as far as the archived footage is concerned.

I thought last nights episode was pretty good minus a few problems with the timeline. Tonight's episode, however, was significantly worse. The timeline was even more jumbled and the archival footage was a complete mess. Showing B-17s when talking about the Luftwaffe's bombing of London. And what was a fricking T-55 doing in one of the filmed battle scenes? Was there no editor for this series?

yeah I want to like this show and am watching but the use of wrong equipment like B17's, T55 tanks and heck last night the German soldiers were using Mk I Enfields when shooting at Hitler. I know what they are trying to do but things like that are a turn off. Also they have totally shortchanged the Japanese atrocities in China. I mean seriously if Hitler would have slaughtered 250,000 in one city in Europe you think they would have mentioned it aka Nanking. Also not sure on how they picked who to follow. Yamamoto would have been a good one to follow.

Has anyone else felt like Mussolini and his exploits have been relegated to meer footnotes of the overall war. Granted, as stated before, its a lot of material to cram into 6 hours; but still he basically goes unmentioned for hours. Also, the second episode just shows Stalin in power in Russia with no explanation of how and why. Lenin apparently just disappeared. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

They haven't mentioned Marshall, Ike, Nimitz, or even the Desert Fox yet.

A few of my military surplus and relic groups on facebook are fit to be tied because germans were shooting british guns and several other rifle discrepancies in the battle scenes. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)
