since the board has reviewed Clapton and Phish. i will give the rundwon of what i thought was a great day of music friday. Jason Isabel was amazing. He played just about everything from southeastern with exception of Yvette and elephant. mixed in some Drive by hits and played some great guitar. I went into the Avett brothers with an open mind as my buddy's were huge fans and me not so much..they put on a steller show and the entergy was great!
i missed Phish and left early for clapton becuase the sound sucked arse if you werent close. it might have helped if they sound checked before he came on stage.

After listening the Avett Brothers for a few years (and seeing them at that Final Four concert) a few years back, they always sort of reminded me of the guy playing the guitar on the steps in Animal House. But their set at Jazz Fest was awesome and powerful and just a good rock and roll time.

Hooray! A non Phish jazzfest thread!
It was my first time seeing Jason Isbell and he didn't disappoint. It looked like they had a few issues during sound check, causing a late start, but the sound was great the entire show.
It was pretty cool that he saw the proposal go down during Cover Me Up and gave the couple a shout out after the song.
As for Avett, this was my sixth time seeing them live and now ranks as my second favorite show. They came out with such evergy from the start that it really set the tone for the rest of the show. I don't think they often start shows with Talk On Indolence but it was the perfect song for the day and atmosphere.
Also, closing with If It's The Beaches was amazing. It was my first time hearing it live and led to the below cool story.
Me and the gf were leaving the show after Avett left the stage and we saw a middle aged couple hugging and you could tell the wife was crying. They struck up conversation with us and she said it was the first time they had ever even heard of Avett but If It's The Beaches and the show in general had moved her to tears.
From talking with a few others around us, you could tell many new Avett converts were born on 4/25/14.

i totally missed the proposal during Cover me Up probally due to me staring at the girl infront of me hula hooping the whole set. every 3rd rotation her skirt would fly up..it was a good day

Avett Brothers are one of my favorite live acts I've ever seen, and Jazzfest is absolutely the perfect venue for them.

It was good show, a bit short. I did think opening with Indolence felt a bit unusual since it was the closer for so long and I thought playing Amazing Grace didn't work with the mood of the crowd. They did play a variety of sounds and I thought it was a great set to capture some new fans.

Why the lulz? They really do put on a good live show and I don't think that is widely debated.

They didn't even reach Tier 5 in the latest polls

Over the years I've tried getting into this guy's stuff several times and again at the Fest on Friday. I didn't even make it through 3 songs, I don't think I've ever been more bored by a musician.

A festival atmosphere really isn't the best setting for Jason and Avett.
Their music would connect a lot better in a small theater setting.
The draw for those two are their lyrics more so than the actual music (for me). This doesn't lend itself well in a windy noisy festival setting.

I've never been to Jazzfest, so I can't speak of the venue being perfect for them, but I sure as heck am looking forward to seeing them on the beach at Hangout on Sunday as the sun goes down.
