Should sexual orientation be engineered in the womb?

Interesting story and argument about whether sexual orientation can be engineered in utero. Should parents be able to take steps to lower the likelihood that their child will be gay or lesbian? What are the political and social implications of this drug, if indeed it does work?

So much for people letting nature takes it course.
I don't really care if they want to do that. It's up to them. At the same time, don't sue the doctor when it's born with four legs and a tail.

I think it starts a slippery slope making the portrayal of life in the movie GATTACA seem more and more prophetic.

If a 'gay' gene is ever discovered, then the libs are going to twist themselves into knots once people begin aborting children they believe will turn out gay.

Can't be cause people aren't born that way.

I doubt, given the medical risks, that most doctors would even prescribe this method. The political and social implications remind me of Nazi Germany where everyone was supposed to fit a certain mold of what a person should be and look like.

On a related point, we already have 'elective abortions'. Let's say that mom and dad want a baby. But she gets pregnant with twins. They can't afford to raise 2 kids.
Parents: "Are they identical?"
Doc: "No, there is a boy and a girl."
Parents: "Kill the girl."

Sounds like something out of Gattica.

This was always an interesting ethical question to me. If homosexuality is something you are born with (which i think it is), than what if we could "cure" it.
I put "cure" in question marks because i don't necessarily consider it a disease, if you could modify someones hair color you wouldn't call that a cure.
But at the same time, there are a lot of issues and setback involved with being homosexual, and while i ams rue there are a lot of happy and adjusted homosexuals out there, most people wouldn't choose that lifestyle.
