Walmart or hefty bags will do. YWIA
ETA: I would not have appreciated it when I was a senior, but I would now.

Do not buy luggage. As an adult you may see the practicality in it and think back to times you've traveled and how great it would be, but an 18 year old just out of high school is going to react the same as if it's a new pair of socks. They'll be pissed. Get them something else.

Awesome gift. Can never have too much luggage as a young adult.

I disagree. They may not like it at first. But we took all kinds of road trips my freshman year. A decent/maneuverable bag would have been awesome.

Shouldn't you get a gift someone will like?

You did, he might not. He might be the typical freshman scraping by on ramen and spaghettios who can't just take trips every weekend.
Also, if he does go for a long weekend trip to visit friends, whatever travel/duffel bag he currently has would almost surely be sufficient to pack 2 days clothes in.
I'm not saying it's a bad gift overall, hell I'd love to have some nice new luggage. I'm saying for an 18 year old, it's not a good gift. Even if it was just 3 or 4 years later and they were an upperclassman in college, I'd say yeah good idea.

I agree. Even if he uses it once a year, he'll be glad he has it and doesn't have to spend his money to buy it. I agree with carry on size. Anything larger and he'll have to spend more money to use it.

i will say though to consider where this grad will be living. don't go buying some massive rolling piece of luggage for them if they are going to be living in a dorm. they may not have an appropriate place to store it.

We used something like this
But this is way better than what I had.
Also used this
This is a complete set so you might not be able to afford it yet. Buy one piece at a time.
I miss college.

I actually got some north face luggage for graduation that I used for practically everytthing. It isn't rolling, but I have used it for hiking, beach use, even as an ice chest on a tiki tubing trip.
