While Scruffy isn't the smartest, it's all by choice. It's definitely the dream job he's been looking for.

Still there 14 yrs later.

If you do pediatrics right it is the right call. My pediatrician set up shop in a rich part of Arizona. He is routinely named "top" pediatrician in Arizona by local magazines. All this means is he shows up maybe 2-3 hours a day, runs multiple large pediatric offices and pulls in easily 500k+

He told me he graduated from a lower level medical school, he wasn't the best doctor and he isn't always right. Said the key was to be good with the kids, tell moms their children aren't dying when they cough and always have state of the art facilities

Peds is like Veterinary medicine, without the money.

I like to give a college buddy crap for going into peds, but he matched at Mayo so that's cool I guess.

Received a random thing in the mail notifying me that my hospital was hiring nurses with a 20k bonus after 1 year of work. Applied online, was interviewed for like 15 minutes at the hospital and offered the job right then and there. That was almost 7 years ago.

Most online sites aren't the best way to find work. Alot of those jobs aren't really open. Companies post them for perception that they are doing well. You have to find an in with human contact.

Sorry but that's stupid and you're wrong. Companies post positions because they are legally required to by federal law. To post positions you don't have only creates more churn for HR.

To comply with federal law, companies do post positions even if they know who they'll hire.

I knew the right people. Started my career with an inspection company from a reference. My reference was looking for a company for a nuclear plant shutdown. Spent 3 years in refineries and paper mills. Got into the nuclear field. Now, I work half the year and get paid pretty well.

Recruiting companies do this all the damn time just to increase their resumes on hand. That was worse in Houston. I'd apply for a job and they'd call me within 15 minutes to come meet with the recruiter, then they'd tell me the one I had applied for was filled but they had these others for me to look at.

Cold call by a headhunter that snagged my resume from who knows where. It was several years out of date.

He was looking for a contract to direct position with an Oil major. I jumped. 8 years later last Monday. Pretty scary to go contract since I was with a smaller petrochemical company. Couldn't have been a better choice.
