Experts Warn Civilian World Not Ready For Massive EMP Caused Blackout

I'd say that if a solar flare or EMP from a nuke took out our electric grid it may take a decade or so to get back fully operational, and in the meantime many people would starve to death, disease would be rampant, and lots of rioting, murdering and civil unrest would come as a result.
What say you? How would you survive something like our entire electric grid going out, no transportation, and empty grocery stores, and basic services gone like garbage pickup, electricity gone, and water shut off?

In the first few minutes of an EMP, nearly half a million people would die. That's the worst-case scenario that author William R. Forstchen estimated in 2011 would be the result of an EMP on the electric grid - whether by an act of God, or a nuclear missile detonating in Earth's upper atmosphere.

The Amish laugh at this.

You just have to fix the solenoid to get your vehicle started again.
Haven't you seen war of the worlds?

1/2 million? More like 200+ million.

Is it true the grid can be protected from such an event? If so, that is a function the Federal Gov should be filling instead of wasting trillions on BS.

I had no idea what an EMP was until I opened the link.

I would steal a sailboat and live on the ocean catching fish and what not. I'd also probably set up some kind of smuggling operation with my sailboat to get rich off the apocalypse.

10 years?? Maybe if all the electrical engineers are simultaneously assassinated too. Even if you blow up all the transformers I think you can rebuild the most important parts of the electrical infrastructure in a year or 2.

On my scale of things to worry about, a massive EMP strike is about #3774.

I'd say simply the number of people on the East coast who are tied up in hospitals on their death beds would easily number 1/2 million, and they'd certainly die (provided the hospital's generator is also destroyed). Not to mention plane and car crashes, and its in the millions.

Rednecks will make it. New York will die in about a week, those fricking idiots will be eating each other.

I can only hope

Everything would revert back into the analog eara and depending on what catastrophic events took place before and after a global scale EMP blast.
Fox Fire books would all immediately become more valuable than gold.
I span back into the pre airconditioning days but not the power and telephone.
Lack of critical medicines would kill the weak and sick first then disease and mayhem would surely play an attrition level on mankind.
Toothpaste, refined sugar, coffee would be things I would miss besides AC current and household air conditioning.
Townships would form as forts once again I would imagine just makes you wonder how long we would stay in the dark ages this time?
1000 years like the last time civilization fell...
