Experts Warn Civilian World Not Ready For Massive EMP Caused Blackout

I'd say that if a solar flare or EMP from a nuke took out our electric grid it may take a decade or so to get back fully operational, and in the meantime many people would starve to death, disease would be rampant, and lots of rioting, murdering and civil unrest would come as a result.
What say you? How would you survive something like our entire electric grid going out, no transportation, and empty grocery stores, and basic services gone like garbage pickup, electricity gone, and water shut off?

In the first few minutes of an EMP, nearly half a million people would die. That's the worst-case scenario that author William R. Forstchen estimated in 2011 would be the result of an EMP on the electric grid - whether by an act of God, or a nuclear missile detonating in Earth's upper atmosphere.

As do many in third world countries who aren't tied at the hip to technology I'd say.

You just have to fix the solenoid to get your vehicle started again.
Haven't you seen war of the worlds?

I'm headed to the woods should it happen the deep woods where nobody will find me.
People who grew up in the city and have no survival skills will be the ones who are screwed. Folks who grew up learning to fish and hunt and navigate their way in the woods/waterway's will be the ones who survive.

In the first movie I don't believe they faced any adverse effects due to it taking place before computers ran vehicles.

You don't think every Tom Dick and Harry "country boy can survive" with a gun and a tent isn't going to do the exact same thing?

The paradox is that the third world countries that have no tie to technology wouldn't even know about an EMP blackout. They would just carry on.

i'd imagine even the totally shitty parts of libera or the congo use electricity

People in remote villages in the Jungles of Guatemala for example. Many tribes in Africa, etc... Someone would probably have to tell them for them to know.

Is it true the grid can be protected from such an event? If so, that is a function the Federal Gov should be filling instead of wasting trillions on BS.

I had no idea what an EMP was until I opened the link.

I would steal a sailboat and live on the ocean catching fish and what not. I'd also probably set up some kind of smuggling operation with my sailboat to get rich off the apocalypse.

For what, though?
lights, autos, etc
it's all somewhat irrelevant, though, so i'll drop that argument, as it wasn't my point
these glorious places not beholden to technology are the places where you find left expectancies under 50 years
great places
