I remember playing through this countless times, but I'm playing through it now, and, after playing Ground Zeroes, these controls and camera just feel archaic. still fun as shite though
where does this rank for you?
I'd say top 5 for me

solid entry in the MGS series.
definitely one of the more memorable titles for that gen.

I didn't care for this entry upon release, however having gone back to it in recent years refreshing myself with the story, it has aged remarkably well.
So well in fact that I don't feel it has aged as bad as Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots has.
If you would have asked me ten years ago if this game was a top ten all time for the Playstation 2, I would have said no with it falling just short of 10.
Now I say this one is an easy top 10 probably falling just short of being in the top 5.

this and demon's souls were the first 2 games i got when i bought a ps3 last year. this one left me feeling meh. maybe it was because of the self indulgent, almost masturbatory cutscenes. maybe i was just looking forward to playing demon's souls and wanted to blaze through.
i definitely need to play it again. so much background shite that i felt i was supposed to know

mgs2 certainly had some epic moments. gonna play through it next
i thought about picking up the legacy collection so i could play the entire story, but ill wait for price drop

i just ordered the MGS legacy collection. $52. frick
comes with metal gear 1 and 2, mgs1 and VR missions, MGS 2 Substance, MGS 3 Subsistence (which has 3d camera instead of isometric), MGS peace walker (which ive never played) and MGS4
not bad for 50 bucks, i guess.

MGS2 had my favorite story of all the games

Funny that I was thinking about these today and how much fun they were.
MGS 1 was the best of the series, IMO. Definitely top 10 games all time for me.

Just played the first mgs for the first time last week. I'm new to the series and love it already. What's your psn name by the way?
Posted on 4/20/14 at 6:39 pm to Carson123987
It is probably my second favorite of the franchise after MGS1

My fav MGS and one of my top 10, possibly top 5.

Snake Eater is the best of all the MGS games in both gameplay and story but I've only played the Subsistence version with the 3rd person camera.
I really liked MGS4 but I don't see how anyone could enjoy that game without having played the previous titles. There are so many references to previous events and the game heavily plays off nostalgia, specifically toward the end. I can't help but think most of that would be lost on someone coming into that series with that title.
ETA: Oh, and I think MGS3 is probably in the top 10 for me for GOAT PS2 games. I'm not sure exactly where it would land, though.
