Advise me on OUTDOOR FURNITURE

I'd really like to take advantage of the three weeks of nice weather we get a year. This furniture would be under a patio but still pretty exposed to elements so I'd like something that can hold up.
What are the best places to shop for this stuff? The furniture in the Wal-MArt and Target catalogs looks like crap. Is the stuff at Sears any better?
Also I am guessing that I want to avoid wicker at all costs; I can't imagine that holding up in the wet summers. Educate me OTers.

Got mine from Sam's and it works great. Had it for 3 years and still good as new.

Craigslist just to get a quick look at what's out there... never know! But if Walmart/Target just isn't for you, check out the department stores (Macy's, JCPenney, etc) online or in-store. I remember seeing some real nice stuff at JCP.

Climb up a tree. There's naturally occurring seats up there.

Don't you have to be a member?
Build your own sounds good but I don't have enough space for a full size table & benches. I need something smaller.

We had this same issue last year. Everything we found locally was either crap or 5k for an outdoor sectional.
We ended up buying a table with 6 chairs and cushions from Macy's online for about 1,000. It is great quality. The chairs are welded, so there is no chance that they fall apart. The table is also very nice, and has enough room for 8 people.
I think this was the type of set:

Keep in mind, their shipping was horrible. They do freight shipping, and the BTR area truck comes once a month. So while we ordered (and paid $$$) in May, we missed the window for the June truck, so we did not get our set until the end of July.

Nothing made of wood.
We've got some nice aluminum in a dark bronze that is maintenance free. I think she bought it online from Frontgate or something.

Lots of affordable outdoor seating that is made to stand up to the elements. La z boy actually has a really good line of chairs and love seats. Can't recall what brand mine are but we ordered them online from sears I think. Check out their selection

Keep the hound dog off the cushions, otherwise they will forever smell

I bought the Strathwood stuff from Amazon. They have a bunch of different "collections" and what I have has held up well over the past year.
