This is how it is going to go down in 2016:

The Republicans win the Senate and keep The House in 2014.
The following 2 years, the media and the Democrats successfully establish the narrative that any current problems should be blamed on the Republicans because they hold both houses of Congress even though with Obama having the veto pen, the Republicans won't be able to advance any reforms.
By 2016, everything is set up for another Dem POTUS and the Dems take back the Senate to go about their frickery.
Rinse and repeat because the electorate is retarded and has a short memory.

The dems won congress in 2006 and won the presidency two years later; who's to say history won't repeat itself on the flip side ten years later?

Well, the dems do have the media working for them, big difference.
For example, Mark Foley was pretty much made the face of Congress in 2006. Every Republican had to say something about him. What are the odds that would ever happen the other way, with the NJ senator and the hookers and other graft he's up to his eyeballs in for example? Think he'll ever be the face of dems in Congress? Think anybody else will ever have to answer for his actions? Nope, in that case he's just a one off and since it is NJ he'll get re-elected whenever he runs again.

Here is my prediction
GOP wins senate in 2014
They do nothing, and do not fight for conservative principles. They tuck tail and run any time Obama wags his finger. Budgets that increase spending, perhaps tax increases, and amnesty will be pushed over the finish line by Republicans.
When asked why they are passing these non-conservative bills that strip more of our liberty, the GOP will say "We can't die on this hill" or "We need to live to fight another day" or "We have now taken that issue off the table so the democrats can't beat us up on it" or "We can't risk our new majorities, we need to win in 2016 so we can't do anything to risk that".
2016 will roll around and despite the GOP having control of both chambers of congress, we as a country have less liberty and are less free than we were on January 1, 2015. Government will have gotten bigger, spending has not been reigned in, and newly legalized illegals are running around and getting ready to vote.

Well, although it is a variation of your prediction, here is what I think is going to happen.
1. Republicans win the Senate and keep the House in 2014.
2. The following 2 years, Republicans put forth candidates like Jeb Bush as their frontrunners for the Republican nomination.
3. One of those candidates wins the nomination due to the Republican party not learning from past mistakes and using all of their power to attack the candidates who could actually win.
4. The Democrats win the 2016 election because the Republicans are retarded.

I am emailing my Senators and Congressman.

GOP wins senate
Economy gets worse
ACA gets worse
More Obama scandals surface in light of GOP House & Senate control.

GOP barely misses Senate majority in 2014 midterms
Dems lose presidency in 2016 but maintain very slight majority. Harry Reid is forced out after Rand Paul's election. Paul + House majority and close Senate split lead to compromise and better governance.
right?

Rand Paul's election
Book it. More money will be spent to keep him from being nominated than they will spend against the Democratic opponent.

It doesn't matter if the Repubes win. Their motto is "We can run this big Monster better than the Dems." They have no plan to reduce gov't, spending, or, reducing the debt. It's all about staying in office, all either side is worried about is keeping their job. I really don't care who wins, nothing changes either way.

Hope not Scoop. I hope GOP wins Senate 2014 and Rand Paul gets elected in 2016 and conservatives start cleaning up this mess, starting with Obamacare

If another feel good Presidency (Hillary, first woman President) happens after 8 yrs. of epic fail. We are looking at possibly 16 yrs. of zero economic, fiscal leadership. We will be toast

You forgot that once they win both chambers of Congress, the GOP will turn on itself as Ye Olde Garde tries to rid itself of the Tea Party.

That's the only difference in the comparison and a very true one. The media is always working 24/7 in favor of the Dems.
Anyway the Republicans better worry more about doing what's right and what needs to be done if they win Congress or the media will be the least of their worries. It will be 3rd party time for sure if they frick up again.

Rand keeps playing his cards right and building the infrastructure and goodwill he has built so far, he's going to force the GOP to hide their hand and play along or take a chance of exposing themselves to get rid of Rand which will almost certainly end in disaster for the GOP and play out beautifully for Rand.
