Workout Question - Over Training?

I lift in the mornings but really want to lose some fat and get better cardiovascularly. Would it be over doing it if in the evening, ~8 pm I did the Insanity workout?

This. And make sure your diet is in check. That would be much more beneficial than working out 2x per day.

Insanity is probably too much to do both, but nothing wrong with getting in a good run or something similar later.

You lift every morning? Lift 3 and do whatever the other 3-4.

I'd make sure that you don't try doing too much too soon. You can wear yourself down quickly. Maybe insanity 3 times a week in either the PM then slowly work up to more days a week as you feel it out.

Just heard this on a podcast......
"If you're doing 1-2hrs a day in the gym......trust me you're not anywhere close to overtraining"

do what poop said. try a strength workout 3-4 days a week and then hit insanity the other days. insainity is a marathon though, would be better doing sprints, tire flips etc on days you dont lift.

wow. i can think of a thousand things i'd rather do that spend 14 hours a week in a gym, and still come out in great shape.

That's not what I was getting at. I do an hour a day.
What I was getting at is the whole overtraining thing is over thought. Your body will tell you if you're over doing it..........there is not an exact formula.

yeah, i know, i was just thinking about 14 hours in a gym and getting nauseous.
i think it's hard for some people to know when they're overdoing it, especially when first getting serious about fitness.
but, i agree genera-- i've overdone it maybe twice in my entire life. i vary my exercise type and level so much that it's not really a risk.

Sorry, had to drive to work. I was trying to find something that I could do with my wife to help her lose some fat also. Both of us work and we have three kids. Trying to do something together after the kids are in bed.

If you are looking to workout together maybe AM Insanity or a backyard circuit. That way kids are still asleep and you are not having to workout at 8pm then laying in bed wide awake until midnight.

I lift and run on the same days 4 times a week no issues. But be careful with the cardio so late in the day, it amps you up and you wont be able to sleep.

Would probably be overtraining although I have no idea what you do to lift in the morning. I would lift in the morning, making sure that if you do lift every morning, you are hitting different parts of the body to give the rest of your body a chance to recover, as well as taking creatine beforehand, whey before and after, and maybe a casein shake at night to give your body optimal ability to push through workouts and then recover. Problem with creatine is that it makes you retain water, so while you may lose fat, you may still appear a little puffy. That should go away after you stop taking creatine.
I would not do Insanity, though you could probably do a less intense course of plyometrics or cardio. Maybe run 3 miles in the evening.
My recommendation, though, would be to do your weight lifting routine M W F, then do a course of plyos or Insanity T Th Sa, and rest on Sunday. Just my 2cents.

no such thing. you are just not trained enough to handle that level of training

That's a fair point.
