Do people still believe that by not eating, your body will hold on to fat?
Ive heard people say "don't skip breakfast you'll go into starvation mode and your body will hold on to the weight", or "your not losing weight because your not eating enough".It sounds ridiculous.
Think about all the starving people in the world, no worries, your body will hold onto the fat and you'll never die.
Extreme calorie restriction may not be the healthiest way by far, but the fastest way to lose weight is by not eating.
Eating does raise your metabolism. Lets say digestion uses 5-10 cal for ever 100g carbs and 25 cal for 100g protein. Thats about 300 calories throughout the day. there is a small margin of efficiency, but you have to be eating low calorie hard to digest foods. your metabilism may drop 10-20% but youve restricted calorie intake by 50%
Many people can go without eating dinner, go to bed, skip breakfast and eat a big lunch, that's a 24hr fast. By doing so you can slash your intake in half, compared to just shaving off a few hundred calories.

Gary Player says Americans, and now some of the Chinese, eat too much. We're all fat as shite
The less you eat, the longer you live.

I don't eat for 16 hours then only eat in a 8 hour window. Everyday. I've done it for the past 8 months. I've lost fat and kept it off that way. Occasionally I'll throw in a 24 hour fast in there.
I'm in better shape than I've ever been in.
I know I'm not starving myself though.

Word for word, same here.

The whole many small meals throughout the day thing has been shown to be a bunch of hooey.

Ummm.
I literally learning this stuff right now. It's truth. There are biochemical mechanisms in place for your body to store more fat when in a fasting state.
Your understanding of it is just very skewed, obviously.
If you don't eat, then you obviously won't "hold on to fat" because you need energy. But if you're in a fasting state (i.e. haven't been eating much) and then you eat a meal, your body will try to save as much of it as possible (as fat) for use for the next period of fasting.
From an evolutionary standpoint this makes sense, as humans were historically hunter gatherers and there was never a certainty of when the next meal would be.
The point is, if you try to lose weight by simply severely lowering your caloric intake, when you inevitably stop dieting your body will store as much as possible as fat and you'll bounce right back to where you were. This is why fad diets don't last.
Weight loss is as simple as take in less calories than you burn. Best way to do this is to decrease your calories some, but not starve yourself, and increase calories burned.
If you don't follow any of that, stop stuffing yourself and exercise more, and you'll lose weight.

I smoke and take large doses of amphetamine.
You should try it.

If you reduce your caloric intake you will lose weight. If you reduce your sodium intake you will lose water weight. Fat people like to rationalize and say "I don't eat anything...it's my metabolism." They're lying.
An aside...I read an article today in the WSJ about honesty. One question: "Have you ever told the truth even though it hurt you?" The answer I came up with was easy. When I was 18 I had a beautiful GF, about 5-7, 120. But she ate like a pig.
I told her, "If you don't change your eating habits your metabolism is gonna change and you're gonna be fat." She broke up with me.
Fast forward to 2013. I visited an old friend in New Iberia. Him: "I saw your old girlfriend from HS. She weighs about 300 pounds."
She can't say that I didn't warn her. She could have been Mrs. Zach.

Our bodies may have those mechanisms, but not enough to warrant a personal trainer saying "dont skip breakfast or you'll go into starvation mode and then you wont lose any weight."
fad diets dont work because people dont have enough will power. that's why extreme diets are the only diets that work for them. When they try a sensible diet the give an inch then take a mile.

When you skip breakfast, remember you're coming off of 8ish+ hrs of no calorie intake. All you're setting yourself up to do is overcompensate with the next meal. Your body will go into "starvation mode" to an extent because you still need energy and you haven't taken anything in 16 hours. You're better off eating breakfast. Taking in less than you burn will cause you to lose weight, but there are healthier ways of doing it.
The most important part of losing weight is burning off calories. You can only healthily cut so much out on the intake side before you start depriving yourself of necessary amounts of vitamins, essential AAs, essential FA, etc.
I think you're trying to explain things you don't understand

Not to mention that people are individuals, not aggregate masses of statistical data. Depending on your own biochemistry, you may benefit from more frequent, smaller meals to regulate your blood sugar....or you may be just fine fasting for extended periods of time. There is no one size fits all when it comes to nutrition. We are a vastly varied species. What works for one person isn't necessarily the best plan for another.

Uhh. Bad advise pal. Unless by "taking amphetamine" you really mean smoking amphetamine. By far the better option for weight loss. Not saying it's the best out there, but you don't have the track marks that dieters on the spike have.

If you're trying to alter the proportion of fat to muscle then starving yourself is a horrible idea. You will lose fat and muscle, turning you into a skinny fat person, which is a bad look.

What the frick ever.
Eating sensibly and exercising does the trick for 90% of the population.
