House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan unveiled an updated Republican budget plan Tuesday that would slash $5.1 trillion in federal spending over coming decade and promises to balance the government's books with wide-ranging cuts in programs like food stamps and government-paid health care for the poor and working class.
HELL YEAH!!

Right now the proposal gives me a huge boner. If it passes, I'll explode. Who's with me bros?

The bill will be labeled racists and discriminatory to women, poor people and old folks in T-minus 6 hours.

Sounds like an April Fools story

Once again, the GOP doesn't know its audience. Meanwhile, the dems just got a nice little marketing tool...again.

Ryan's plan would also cut Pell Grants for low-income students and pensions for federal workers, while steering away from cuts to benefits for senior citizens, at least in the short term.
Another popular opinion among the lowest common denominators, no doubt. But who needs to win elections anyway.

I think perhaps this helps Paul Ryan become the #1 choice for the old guard Republicans who are in charge of picking the candidate for President in '16.

No military cuts?
booooooooo.
I'm sure this will go far. Thanks for, again (to both parties), wasting our time.

cut Pell Grants for low-income students

But of the course the libertarians would never support him because he isn't going far enough so they might vote third party and Hello President Hillary!!

I think the better question would be why are Pell grants so easy to abuse? Schools like SUNO come to mind.

Pell grants and student loans should definitely be cut. They're driving up the cost of tuition.
Id be fine with offering targeted loans and grants for professions we are short on....like engineering. For Art History, not so much.

I seem to remember this administration complaining about the "for profit" colleges, yet I read a stat somewhere that 60% of the fees at "for" profit schools were Pell Grants.
quote:There should be stipulations with Pell Grants. Free as long as you are a student in good standing and graduate on time. If not, it converts to student loan and you pay back what you got plus interest.

As long as you can still roll your eyes and claim it's a "waste of time" for any pol that proposes to cut them, it's all cool, right?

To quote the senator from KY,"Is this from a baseline of zero"?

It's a waste of time b/c it is not a balanced approach. It has no chance of passing. Having no military cuts is kind of like a democrat proposing a budget with all military cuts and tax increases. It's not going anywhere. It's a complete waste of time.

That's awesome and a step in the right direction. But cuts need to be across the board affecting every department and agency.
But this has no chance of passing anyway.
