Exactly, poverty and ignorance creates shitty environments where shitty people are made and raised to be shitty. Just take race out of the discussion and start to try and combat poverty and ignorance.

Poor AZN immigrants seem to do just fine.

You saying "income inequality" is the issue? Cause that sounded like a political answer.

Wouldn't the decline of the African American family in your region of the country allow for white southerners to gain comparative advantage?
Seems like this would work in your favor more than anything else.
A comparative advantage in what?

I do agree there a systemic decline in what is considered the American family structure.
But the decay of the family is way more prevalent in the Afro-American community.
I have no facts, but I suspect Asian-Americans probably have the highest traditional family % by race.
And while I think the overall decline of two parent families isn't simply an issue of race, the numbers suggest the problem is higher in black communities.
Instead of making excuses like Lakeboy7, it's time for someone to point out the problem and maybe, just maybe do something to improve it.
Bill Cosby tried and felt the backlash of the AA community.
Alan West tried and the liberal media dismisses him and claims he's insane.
Education is the first step.

I think that acknowledgement that there is an issue is the first step.

As a black man I would like to apologize to white America for being born in this country after 1969, not growing up like Beaver Clever, and causing you all so many problems. If you all could please tell me where the boat going back to Africa is departing I will promptly arrive for my deportation.

The Civil Rights Movement was needed. I am by no means being critical of that or those that risked (and lost) their lives in order to make it happen. Especially 2 days away from April 1st.
However, the timing of the two do coincide.
Personally, The Great Society as whole is mostly responsible.

I'd say poor decisions are more likely to lead to poverty.. People growing up in poverty are more likely to grow up around shitty social norms. This wasn't always the case.
The problem with the declining family structure in the AA family is a recent one. Prior to the 70's, it wasn't much of an issue. It's a problem presently because it's become acceptable in the culture they live.
Many whites and black grew up on relative poverty in the South. It was still a working class environment in those days. The wars on poverty and drugs are directly to blame.
Current quick fixes (our welfare system) create the poverty trap.

Damn right. Unfortunately you're ignoring it.

No, I'm saying that lack of education is the issue. Better public education and more incentive to graduate would be a good start.
How about beefing up child-protective services so that if you have a child as a teenager and can't take care of it, you lose the child to the state? Then the child is more of a burden than a source of income, and it's less appealing to make more poor people.
How about these entitlement programs get cut in half when you drop out of high-school so you have more desire to graduate? Then you're in a better postition to eventually get off state assistance.
It's not about cutting money to social safety nets, it's about making them more temporary and getting people out of poverty and more educated.

How about so you don't become a dead beat loser. If that's not incentive enough then you suck at life and deserve to be ridiculed.

Only if every repub and white supremacist came along it would only be right to the Native Americans.

You're right. What were we thinking - there are no problems in the black community whatsoever. God where did we get those ideas from? Pardon our ignorance in mistakenly believing that the black family structure is anything but picture-perfect these days.

Not reading all five pages (because I've read this thread about 100 times). But has anyone looked at the source of this article?

I love how people always lump these two together, when in reality the progressives have done way more harm to the well being of poor people and minorities over the years. Everybody caught in the poverty trap should be allowed to piss on LBJ's grave on their birthday.

Slavery and then Segregation went on for 200 years but I suppose a wrong that lasted that long should be overcome in 30-40 years. Things take time and if you think its getting worse and not better then you really have no idea whats going on in the real world.
