in all seriousness, though, i hope the surgery goes well and he's able to return next season.

"best opportunity to have a full recovery."
Ugh...

are we gonna be dealing with out for another full season situation here?

Once again, our medical team came to this conclusion after 3-4 very intense months of researching WebMD and Wikipedia. Hats off to those guys for the quick decision making
Get well Ryno. We need you. Like, we really need you. Like, if Jason Smith comes back because you're hurt next year that's a double whammy. Like, without you, we'll be chucking up 12 whole threes a game again.
Please get well.

i think it's the same thing manning went through. i'm not positive on the timetable for recovery, nor do I think there's anything guaranteed about his being able to play again based on stuff he's said in the past.
it seemed like it wasn't much when he got hit, and now it's turned into this. really sucks.

i think it was a lot more than just our medical staff that went into this decision making. i'm sure he was seeing multiple specialists outside of the medical team for the Pels

Its been reported several times about him seeking opinions from a few experts around the country. Add in the fact that, if at all possible, choosing to rehab/recover without surgery is always preferred to going under the knife. It's pretty clear that they gave him time to see if he could recover without it and now that they have seen no improvement or the improvement wasn't going as expeditiously as they would like, they are choosing this option. Which is the same thing they did with Jrue.

That's always been the case. Back injuries, especially disc issues are not easily corrected. We only have to look back to Peja.

I was discussing this with someone a few days ago. Did Manning sit out the year, after he had the surgery or did he get hurt at the beginning of that season and consequently missed the year?

Ryno is much younger than Peja when this happened at least. That is one thing going for us. He's still young enough that his body "should" be able to recuperate.

damn isn't this a year recovery time of injury?

Feel for Anderson. Back injuries are a tough road to come back to full health, and it is pretty dang hard to do it most times. Hopefully thy do what's best for his future and the surgery goes well.

In May 2011, he underwent neck surgery to alleviate neck pain and arm weakness he dealt with during the previous few seasons before signing a five-year, $90 million contract extension with the Colts in July 2011. Manning had hoped to play in the 2011 season, but in September 2011 he underwent a second, and much more serious surgery: a level one cervical fusion procedure. Manning had never missed an NFL game in his career, but was forced to miss the entire 2011 season. He was released by the Colts on March 7, 2012, and after an almost two-week period where he visited with and worked out for several NFL teams, he signed with the Denver Broncos on March 20, 2012.

Manning was 38 years old IIRC. Ryno is in his mid 20s. Apples and oranges when it comes to regeneration in the body.

I'm no expert by any means, but from what I've gathered, surgery on nerves is something you want to avoid if at all possible, so giving the body a chance to heal itself makes sense. Ryno is either going to be more or less back to normal within 3-4 months of surgery (by training camp if he has surgery soon), or we won't know when he's coming back.

I don't think Ryno's main concern is Basketball right now... This is an injury that could effect him for the rest of his life. Kind of scary.

frick Gerald Wallace. The league needs to give us a compensatory pick or something. At least don't have his salary count against the cap space
