We have shot them down and caught them in a sheet before.
You have to move fast ...and the weakest link cant be a twat when they get stung

If you do end up getting the nest in one piece without killing your self, put it In a plastic garbage bag and seal it shut for a year to allow for all the hornets and eggs to die, then spray lacquer on it, they look pretty cool in a camp

Step 1, Find some giant Mexican kids and tell them it's a piñata ...step 2, profit.

With the right stradagy & some filming this could make the OB hall of fame

I shot one down at the end if January with a .22 rifle. Wasn't too hard to hit the branch. Now hanging in the camp

Does it really take a year to kill all the hornets? Paranoid much?
Got one at our camp too. Shot it down with a .22 and let it be for a week or so and came back to get it. There were some hornets still around but some wasp spray and a hat swung with uncanny accuracy pretty much got the thing into a garbage sack.

Don't do what I did. My dad found one and he said he watched it for a while to make sure no hornets were in it. He said there weren't. He said climb up and knock it down and I'll catch it with this garbage bag.
He lied. Wasps had built a nest inside the hornets nest and they ate my arse up, but he got a good laugh and his freaking hornet nest.

Wait for cool night, climb tree, plug hole & bring it down. Hang in camp

Get it on a cold morning and let it drop in a garbage bag, tie the garbage bag tight so no air can get in it. I would wait a while to check and make sure they are all dead though. Or get a bee suit and one of those smoker things to use.

I have heard stories, so I error on the side of caution. Weather they are true or not I am not sure, but I do not want to be the one telling the story around the campfire that starts out "yall aint going to believe this shite....but"

i had an retired pest control man (bug man) tell me that if you pissed on your hands before handling the nest they won't sting. its got something to do with the uric acid making them really calm/docile. i suggest this method since it did come from a licensed professional. of course the ob wants results so post what happens.

My uncle has one in his kitchen he got by waiting until it was cold one night and snuck up there and trashbaged it on the limb, then cut the limb off. Of course it wasn't 60' off the ground though.
