I assume you're talking about Christianity so I'm curious as to why alien life would raise questions about Christianity.
No kidding! I can just see it now:
Mankind: "Gawd! We are sooo mad at you. Why didn't you TELL us about the other beings?"
Gawd: "Are you KIDDING??? I gave you folks ONE rule...But, you HAD to eat that apple. So, I gave you 10 simple rules...you folks effed that up. So, I said "Look. Just BELIEVE in my Boy. That's all just BELIEVE in JEEBUS! Next thing I know, some BHP asshat is on TD.com misspelling our names and poo-pooing our existence. No. You folks can't HANDLE the full truth!"
Seriously. I'm not a believer. But, can't see how "alien life" would shake one's belief

Thanks for covering all the bases for us.

right, the biggest discovery in the history of humanity and you would not be affected in any way at all, not even by factors out of your control related to the discovery

Yeah, that's what Galileo thought about helio-centrism, and look where THAT got him...

Since I already believe life exists on other planets, wouldn't affect me at all.

Libs would insist that this "life" should be able to vote...without needing ID
Cons would insist it threatens the sanctity of marriage and demand a wall be built
Cajuns would figure out a way to cook it in spices and make it delicious
Rednecks would not even know about it because Honey Boo Boo did not discuss it
Black folk would find a way to be offended by it and insist it is RACISM

Depends on the aliens. If its just little worms or single cell organisms I don't think anyone would care. If we're talking some sort of intelligent human type creatures then I could see that rustling some jimmies. Wouldn't bother me either way. The universe is too vast for there not to be some other life out there.

The only thing it would strengthen for me would be my desire to increase funding for space exploration.

If there is intelligent life out there it's best they never know about us. I think Steven Hawking said that on his secrets of the universe show.

Of course not

I have been convinced for a long time that there is intelligent life on other planets equal to or more intelligent than the human beings on this planet.
I interpret the King James Bible version of John 14:2 which says:
to mean there are many places in the universe where intelligent life exists.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
to mean there are many places in the universe where intelligent life exists.

How would it affect me? First of all, I think there's a better chance that life from other planets has already discovered us than there is for us discovering them. And if they do reveal themselves to us earthlings, I'll have a lot of questions to ask. Then I would STFU and listen to what they have to say.

Unless this life on other planets wants to attack us, I would be fascinated by it but also not surprised by it at all.
The universe is way too big for us to be the only one that has life on its planet.

This is correct.
Also, the Scientologists would smugly point out that they have always believed God created life elsewhere.
Personally, I would try to figure out how to get together with the blue female aliens and see if we're anatomically compatible.

quote:It would do neither. My faith in God has little to nothing to do with whether earthlings are or are not the only intelligent life in the immensely God-created universe. And if algae or amoebas are found on Titan or some yet-to-be-named planet in a far-distant solar system, so what? I don't think all people of faith are as narrow as some here clearly suppose. In fact, I don't think all people of faith are as narrow as some here who enjoy trying to bait them, or who try to put them inside some narrow stereotypical box of their own construction would have you believe.
...would the announcement of life on other planets strengthen your belief or shake it?

Exactly. As a believer even if life is found somewhere else (which I believe exists) it wouldn't shake my faith. The Bible deals with life on earth, who am I to say that God's plan for salvation, as outlined in the Bible, I the same one for alien life? The Bible doesn't talk about a number of things that doesn't mean they don't exist or that their existence destroys the central beliefs of Christianity.

God created the Heavens and the Earth and everything that existed was His creation. Genesis.
For something to exist, it has to have a creator.
For something to exist, it has to have a creator.

quote:
Think about it for a second. As humans, we naturally have an attitude that we on earth are more or less the center of the universe. We are the only life, and god or some other deity created it just so perfectly that we could all survive and thrive I our habitat.
you would hardpressed to find anyone who believes that the earth is the center of the universe anymore.
quote:
Say the announcement was made that life, not even intelligent life, had been found--on Titan or somewhere. Would it affect your faith if you were religious? Does god make mention of the other life he created visiting earth? It seems it would mainly cause confusion but I know when times are tough people tend to stay even closer to their core beliefs.
I am religious and it would not affect my faith one bit.
quote:
So, would the announcement of life on other planets strengthen your belief or shake it?
it would probably strengthen it.
