He's not pandering.
Political definition of pandering:
quote:
In pandering, the views one is verbally expressing are merely for the purpose of drawing support up to and including votes and do not necessarily reflect one's personal values.
When politicians pander, they don't truly believe what they say.

Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich watched from the back of the room. "There are not too many people who can get a standing ovation at CPAC and a standing ovation at Berkeley," said Reich, now a UC-Berkeley professor.

Good for him. Glad to see someone leaning out like this and focusing on what we can all agree on together.

I wonder how much of the audience was non libertarian, though.
Posted on 3/19/14 at 9:13 pm to RollTide4Ever
What does that mean? Who would they vote for under normal circumstances with the average candidates? When was the last time any of those "libertarians" voted for someone with an "R" after their name on the ballot...

I don't know anyone opposed to marijuana legalization.

You live in Bama and don't know any Southern Baptists?

My dad lives in Arkansas and is against it. He has some warped sense of what it means to be "small government."

I'm Southern Baptist and was raised that way. Any time the subject has come up I've been surprised at the number of people who agree with legalization. Even my parents are supporters at this point.

Interesting. I was there a few weeks ago and got the devil alcohol sermon. I explained that I was Catholic so they had given up on me at baptism.

Hell, the founding fathers grew hemp. Probably smoked a little too.

My dad is the same way. I love him to death but don't even try to discuss legalizing with him...he gets all worked up when you point out the positives and statistical facts. His normal reply "that's just the made up bullshite hippie scientists use so they can justify getting high"

You could smoke a pound of industrial hemp and all you'd get is a headache.
Recreational cannabis use didn't start in the U.S. until the 1870's, when Turkish hashish was introduced. It has a longer history as an ingredient in medical tinctures, but I'm not sure how the exact timeframe.
ETA: Even my 90 year-old grandfather thinks that legalized cannabis is okay. He always said he didn't give a 'flying rat frick' what somebody did in their own free time as long as it didn't hurt his pocketbook.
