thanks, I'm going to look into that one and the 60" Samsung.
Cool, just buy the TV that you like the best. Do a little research, but ultimately you will be the one watching it, so get the one you like!

they price match amazon and any authorized internet dealer. the only real benefit of actually buying online is if you find a place that won't charge you sales tax while offering free shipping as well. otherwise, going the best buy route is not a bad deal at all.

Where should I begin to look? Best Buy? Amazon?
Just wait for the next hurricane and follow the crowd.

It's all about paying sales tax and getting free shipping. On a 4 grand TV the tax in Louisiana is $320. They may also charge a delivery fee for such a large TV. That's why buying online is the way to go.

hen add an Apple TV for $99 and get all the same features
my issue with apple tv is the inability to control what apps are on it. I know it comes loaded with ESPN, HBOGO, Netflix, and Hulu, but there are other things i'd like to be on there that I just have to wait for them to add at their leisure.

Decent tv.
How about the user reviews under that TV?

My wife and I bought this after selling our daughter Amanda into white slavery. We actually got a refurbished. It's missing the remote, but oh well-- for $10K off, I can afford a universal, right? The picture is amazing. I've never seen the world with such clarity. Amanda, if you're reading this, hang in there, honey! We'll see you in a year.

Read my post. You MUST research the dealer and they should have well over 100 sells of large TV's with 100 percent positive feedback. I called and talked to the last guy when I bought the 80".
I had no problems at all and a better experience than I've had in the past with Best Buy,etc.

I'm in the market for a new TV, 60"+, LED, smart TV. The one thing I dread is trying to pick a TV. I need to TV aficionados to lend a hand. I'm typically a Samsung guy, however I do own a vizio and LG that are in the kids/playroom, but this TV is going in a room where I watch the most TV so I'd like something with decent picture.
Are you tied to LED? I got the Panasonic VT 65" a couple years ago, and it's fricking gorgeous. I love it.
I thought about LED, but when it came down to it, I felt like plasma was still the best choice. LEDs are good TVs though, no doubt, but my next TV purchase (for a media room) will likely be another plasma.

It's going in a room that's well lit and will be set up next to windows.
I dont think a plasma TV would be the best option for the location it's going

You better hurry. Plasma TV's are going to extinct very soon. Panasonic is the last brand that has them and I am pretty sure I read they have stopped manufacturing them.

I also have the Sharp Aquos, but the 70". I love the TV, actually wish I would have gotten the 80" as I got it before I bought my new house and my living room could easily support the 80" but I didn't know at the time. The picture is damn good for such a big screen. I have the 240 Hz model, I wouldn't take a chance on the 120 Hz if you go with a larger screen.
I know the consensus on here is that Samsung is the best, but in my opinion Samsung just has a great marketing department. I have purchased my last 2 televisions from Alterman Audio in Baton Rouge and Richie Savoie's New Orleans Audio Video. Both of those places only carry nice televisions, not a mix of nice TVs and junk like the big box stores.
Both places felt that Sony still is the best with LEDs and LCDs. Sharp is made by Sony, not sure how many people realize this. They didn't talk bad about Samsung, they just said that the product is a little beneath Sony products. Sharp was also the first company to create the extra large screens for LCDs and LEDs so the others are just copying their technology.

Samsung 55" or 60" and it ain't even close. The other brands can't come compare.
If you want to save a little money see the price of the 55" vs the 60". I think the 55" has a touch better picture than the 60".
Got the 55" a while back and saved $400 by not going with smart tv model. Hardwired Roku for $79 and weeee!.
True Detective was beautiful on HBOGO as was Boardwalk Empire before it.

Awesome...that means I should be able to snag one pretty cheap. And these should last me until OLED prices come way down.

I think LG still makes Plasma TV's

Unfortunately it is just the opposite. Because the supply is almost gone, demand is high and they are price gouging some of the popular models on eBay that you can't find in stores anymore.
I was looking for one for my dad and found this to to be the case. If you want one, buy now because they will only get more expensive until they are gone.

Sounds like that is not the case:

In 2013 LG basically abandoned the game by only producing one non-bargain-basement plasma, in just one size. It's a decent value at 60 inches, but its picture quality was no better than many LCDs'. I wouldn't be surprised if LG also stopped making plasmas next year.

I bought a 70" vizio for my Christmas present.
Very happy with it. Was a beast to mount over my fireplace though. Paid 1479$ at sams.

Is your room is dark...nothing beats panasonc plasma. Sad but true.
